As a refresher -

Uncle Albert, DH - 33

OUR FIRST FULL DAY - Dapper Dans Experience, Magic Kingdom, Poly Beach and Artist Pointe Berry Cobbler!!!

We got up on our own - decided against a wake-up call. We heard that the Poly has Lilo & Stich instead of a Mickey wake-up call. I just couldn't take that. It's just not right. I like to hear "hiya pal - are we glad you're here."

We had PS ressies at Kona Cafe for 7:30 a.m. Well, we didn't get up until 7:25 so obviously we were late. No matter - it wasn't that crowded so we went right on in. I love the Kona Cafe. Although this was our first Poly stay, we always start off our first full day with breakfast at the Kona and then we go to the MK. No reason to break tradition this time especially since we're staying at the Poly. I got Tonga Toast and Uncle Albert got 2 eggs, sausage....I think it was simply titled "2 eggs your way" on the menu. We got a plate so we could split. That way we got a taste of everything. I ordered my absolute favorite breakfast beverage - pineapple juice. Not sure if it is fresh squeezed at the Poly or not but it sure tastes like it. We drank enough Kona blend coffee to send us into outer space. I even bought a 1/2 pound bag to bring home. This morning when I had my Kona coffee, I could see myself sitting at the Kona Cafe sipping away anticipating my day at the MK. In fact, I drank a whole pot and got a little dizzy. Had to make another pot so my DH could have some.

We entered Main Street to the sound of the Dapper Dans. I love them! DH actually got in on the action and sang with them. (he's an opera singer so he had to tone it down a bit for barbershop singing) One of the men took their hat off and placed it on his head and they all got quiet and looked at my husband and said "take it away." Now, a "normal" person probably would have just stood there not knowing what to do. Not Uncle Albert. He sang something about "going to ride Splash Mountain and eat a lot of food." He just made up words as he went along dancing and acting silly with that hat on. I can't remember exactly everything he sang but he gathered quite a crowd and got a thunderous applause. I got lots of pictures - can't wait to see them. I think the Dapper Dans were shocked that he played along so well. This was truly a magical moment for me!!!

We had a great day at the MK. We arrived right at 9:00 a.m. We rode Space Mountain twice. I wonder if anyone has ever noticed that the right side is much smoother than the left side? The left side is quite rickety and shaky. This is the first time I've noticed this. Anyway, the stand by line was only 5 minutes. So when we got off, we got a fast pass and went on to see COP! It was actually open. The last 2 times we've been it's been closed so I was quite happy. I love this attraction. After that we rode TTA. I know it's silly but I love it. It was time for our Fast Pass to Space Mountain. We used it - but really didn't need it. The line was only 10 minutes. Love the short lines!!!!!

We wandered over to Fantasyland to see Philharmagic. But first we stopped by Peter Pan to get a fast pass. I always say you can only do something once for the first time. I love seeing new attractions. We loved it. It's quite amazing. The 3-D effects are great - not only are they 3-D - they kind of whisk by you. It's hard to explain. The music is great and I was glad to see Donald Duck. He's under-rated you know. We were quite pleased with the show. After the show we did Small World. Then, it was fast pass time for Peter Pan. I love Peter Pan. When I was a little girl it was my favorite ride. Then, we did Winnie the Pooh which I think is precious. The lines were still pretty short- 15 and 20 minutes by this point.

Time for lunch. We had quick service food at Harbour House. We like it because it's quiet upstairs and you can sit by the window and watch folks go by. We went to Splash Mountain to get a fast pass after lunch and to my surprise the "splash" in Splash Mountain was turned off. There was no water rushing down the drop. Just a dry drop. I know it's cold out but come on - it's called "splash" mountain. The line was only 25 minutes so we did stand by. It was fun sans the water - but I did miss it. We then went on to ride Haunted Mansion again. (we rode it the night before but I love it so much I could ride it 10 times a day).

We were having a great day - but decided to go back to the Poly to relax. We like to take it easy and break up our days. We went out on the beach in front of Tahiti and enjoyed relaxing and watching the ferry and boats go by. It was pretty warm - in the 70's and the sun was going in and out. We relaxed and read and enjoyed the atmosphere. Then, we went back to the MK to see Spectro Magic (after another ride on Big Thunder). Got a great spot right in front of Pecos Bills. We met a nice couple from Germany. They had two adorable kids. One of them, Sydney, kept running off. He was playing cat and mouse with his dad. And winning. The other child was a cute little girl and all she talked about was Cinderella. DH told her she would be in the parade. It was Cinderella this and Cinderella that. When Cinderella finally came by she was speechless. All of a sudden she had nothing to say. Very cute!

We had PS ressies at Artist Pointe at 8:10 so we really needed to head over to WL. But, Wishes was about ready to start so we stopped over by Hall of Presidents to watch, not worrying about being late for our PS. Do you see a pattern here? We're always late. Didn't want to fight any crowds on Main Street which is why we stopped to watch where we did. We had seen it from the Poly Beach the night before but seeing it with the the music was quite a treat. I love Wishes - I think they've done an excellent job. Well, in that area the fireworks seemed dangerouosly close. DH said I was crazy and that it wasn't that close. But I was justified because as we left a woman actually rubbed her head and a plastic fireworks "thing" fell out - like a shell. I don't know the right name for it. So as usual - I was right. LOL! I wouldn't watch the fireworks in that location again.

We walked over to the Contemporary and then took the boat launch to WL. It was a cold, cold, cold boat ride. We arrived about 30 minutes late. The restaurant was about empty - maybe 7 or so tables. The service was a little slow. It took the server at least 10 minutes to come over to greet us a give us water. But he apologized stating there was a problem in the kitchen. The service was slow thoughout the meal which is surprising because we've always had great service there. We enjoyed it nonetheless. We both had the pork tenderloin with mac n cheese. It's "grown-up" mac n cheese. It has blue cheese and something called "maytag crust." I don't know what it is exactly but it's delicious. I had the Artist Pointe Berry Cobbler which is my favorite WDW dessert (up until now that is..you'll learn my new favorite on another day). We took the bus back to the Poly (a short little trip to the TTC and a short walk to our longhouse). I love the convenience that the Poly offers.

As we walked back from the TTC I asked Uncle Albert, "Is the jury in? Is the Poly your new favorite?" Again, he said "I really like it here but the jury is still out."

We had a magical day and fell asleep like two little children. Next day, Epcot!

Sounds like a wonderful day! Maytag cheese is a type of bleu cheese that they make in Iowa. It is supposed to be awesome, it certainly isn't cheap. I would imagine it was in the crust, it sounds yummy!

Thanks for the info on maytag cheese. Yes, it was a crust. Delicious. Never heard of it before.

Sounds like a great trip so far. Can't wait to read the rest. I too love the haunted mansion, my favorite.
