Let me just start by saying how wonderfully helpful this board has been in helping me plan my trip for my family! Without the help, we would have been missing quite a bit of opportunities!
This is our official day #1 review: to include...
Breakfast at Tusker House
Snack at Animal Kingdom
Dinner at Crystal Palace
The cast:
Momma- 30 y.o. disney fanatic!
Poppy- 36 y.o. "the level headed one"
Peanut- 7 y.o. (turned 8 at Disney!) The quiet one
Monkey- 5 y.o. The opinionated one
This was a completely spontaneous stop for us on our first morning of the vacation. We had gone to Animal Kingdom for the extra magic hours and did our Kilamonjaro Safari (awesome!) and afterwards we all decided that we were very hungry. We had walked by Tusker and I hadnt even given it a second thought because I knew we didnt have reservations. However, on the way back thru after the safari, I decided to just take a chance.
I walked up to the podium and asked how long the wait was for a table or if there was walk-up availability. She said it was only a 15 minute wait. Great! Fantastic!! Put us down!!
We waited in the courtyard area which was shaded for our name to be called. We only waited about 10 minutes and were called up. We were greeted by our hostess and told that we would be having our photo taken first by a photographer outside of the restaurant as a group. Good thinking, Mr. Disney!
Then we moved on into the restaurant. The atmosphere was awesome! Very nicely themed. We were seated and greeted by our server, Mike, right away! He gave a quick run-down of the breakfast buffet, explained that Mickey and friends would be all around and each character would each stop at our table to sign autographs and take photos. Awesome! We didnt realize this was a character breakfast, so we were pleasantly surprised at this news, especially for our first breakfast at Disney- the kids were ready to explode!
Mike asked us all to try the Jambo juice. It was a very flavorful mix of fruit juices (no idea which kinds) and all of us enjoyed it very much. On to the buffet .
The room was large, which was nice to accommodate multiple guests at a time in the buffet area. There were little child-level buffet counters where kids could get their own items which was cute and made my kids feel very important and adult
Poppy had: Biscuit with Sausage gravy, carved honey-glazed ham, beef bobtie quiche, blueberry danish, mickey shaped waffle, bacon
He wasn't feeling well still (fever/cold symptoms), but said that the beef bobtie quiche was worth sampling and everything else was probably good, but he felt like crud.
Momma had: bacon, mickey waffle, biscuit, roasted yukon gold potato wedges, corn bread, pineapple, cheese and bacon
I enjoyed my entire breakfast- the potatoes had a great seasoning on them which I really enjoyed. The cornbread was good, but I had better later in the trip.
Peanut had: mickey waffle, fresh watermelon, cantelope, honey dew melon, donut and biscuit.
No complaints from either of the VERY distracted children!
Monkey had: micky waffle, some sort of orange chocolate bread, fresh pinepple and grapes, cheese, sausage and cinnamon roll
Towards the end of the meal, Mike came and gave the girls each a bead shaker and told them to join in the dance. All the kids and the characters made a train and went back and forth around the seating area- singing and dancing to great African beats. They loved it!
We paid out of pocket for this meal since we werent expecting to be there- ouch! It ran us a whopping $75.86 for all 4 of us. Pretty hefty for breakfast!
Would I do this again? Heck yes!! It was a WONDERFUL way to start of the official Disney day for us! Definitely got us all in the mood for characters and magic, singing and fun! If you are looking for a quiet, non-distracting meal, this ISN'T the place to go. But it was a great time for us!!
