Insane Disney World crew:
Me- (25)-the planner, tour guide, benevolent boss
Mom- (50ish) classic mother, loves family vacations
Dad- (60ish) recently retired, quite laid back, slight troublemaker (in a good way)
I have become accustomed to waking up early in the morning......but I never like it. Except for the particular morning of 2/9/03. I awoke to my dad beating on my door saying Kewen, lets go to Disney World. BTW, my name is Karen but parents tend not to let one forget a speech impediment that they have as a small child......I used to have difficulty with Rs. Anyway, I popped out of bed quite happily so that I could start the whole slave driving act of making sure that we get out of the house on time. Well, I was not entirely successful. We left at 6:32am instead of 6:00am. Oh well, that wasnt TOO bad. Before we left town, we made a crucial stop by the Waffle House to get some of that most widely abused drug....caffeine. It was at this point that my dad noticed the new license plate frame.......luckily, he found it cute and funny.....as long as I removed it when we got back. My dad starts joking about the Clark Griswold move that he had made the previous night with the money and claims that we dont drive all the way to Disney to find that it is closed. We stop in Shoneys for the breakfast bar around Columbia SC......apparently, this vacation does not include our usual healthy diet. This vacation involves eating as much of whatever we want. The rest of the trip was rather uneventful and quite pleasant despite little bit of unwanted rain. However, we were running a little behind schedule. We had PSs for California Grille (my treat, this was my Christmas present to them) at 6:30 so that we could watch the fireworks while we ate.
We get past Orlando and start seeing WDW sighns (YYYAAAYYY) and then turn off onto Exit 67 to enter THE WORLD!!!!! At this point, we are passing tons of purple WDW road signs, which by the way, are kinda tough to follow since they direct traffic to 10 zillion different places. Luckily, for my parents however, I knew that we could get to ASMovies by following signs that read Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach, and/or All Stars. Essentially, they had their own tour guide.......boy were they lucky (Im joking, I was an expensive tour guide).
We pull up to ASMo and I am so excited. I could tell the parents were a little nerved due to the late time and PSs at 6:30. I was too happy to be nerved though. We were assigned rooms in the Toy Story building. Cool place, great location, Andys bedroom was such neat theming. After a minor room mix up (which turned out to be our fault) we got to our rooms by 6:00. Yikes. The parents really wanted to get cleaned up before a nice meal so I called WDW DINE and was able to move our PSs to 8:45pm. No fireworks, but no big deal...we would see them in the parks.
California Grille was wonderful. Awesome view of the castle changing colors! We started out with a couple of relaxing drinky drinks and ordered our 1st course. I ordered the best egg rolls that I have ever had (not that I am extremely accustomed to fine dining or anything....comeon, Im a graduate student.....which means POOR!). Anyway, I dont even remember what they got, I was too busy with my eggrolls. Next, we ordered the main course. I got their famous pork tenderloin and discovered why it is famous. Again, I dont remember what they got but I know they liked it. Then we got dessert. I got some kind of apple tart thing. Again, wonderful. At this point, we rolled on back to ASMo, pleasantly full, and lazily tired. When we returned, I grabbed a brewski from the cooler and went out to sit by the pool for a little bit. I just couldnt avoid checking out the pool before going to sleep. The pool was really cool. Living in the cold NC mountains (ok, I know, it could be worse) for so many years, I miss/love that nice summerish pool atmosphere (kids playing, echoing voices, splashing water, etc.).
After my visit to the pool, I went back to my room, turned on the TV and fell asleep to Have a Zip-pa-de-do-dah, Tip for today. Ah, heaven.
