Day 1 The flight
Gatwick to Orlando
Saturday 6th July
Cast:
Me- Morven (aka Undylad)
Suzanne DW
Kerri DD (7)
Liam DS (5)
Alarm set early again at 6:00am. Kerri was again in foreign territory here. We were all getting the full effect I am not happy! huffy.
Liam on the other hand was fully charged and raring to go, unfortunately for Kerri.
Breakfast was required to revive me. We left the Travelodge and headed for the car parking at 7:00am, managed to find it without getting lost. The map must have been good. The car parking bus at 8:00am dully dropped us off. We had a twenty-minute wait to check-in. We were glad we arrived early as the queue had doubled in length by the time we left check-in. We bumped into a very nice lady from Disney Travel that gave Kerri and Liam both a backpack. That impressed them. We all had a quick browse around the shops in the departure lounge. Kerri and Liam got some reading material, a comic for Liam and a Beanie magazine for Kerri. Between Suzanne and myself, we downed a huge bottle of water and finally chased way my headache from yesterday.
Kerri managed to steer Suzanne into a Ty Beanie shop. They emerged with three new Beanies to add to the collection including Toothy the tyrannosaurus who shares Keris birthday (10th July). I managed to use the internet café, I checked my email and a final, post to the DIS. We eventually board the aircraft on time (10:30am).
It was a Boeing 777 (Oh, where is my 747??).
It is Kerri and Liams first time flying, so watching the childrens faces tends to pass a lot of my time.
Oh, the very nice BA lady gives the children a Pooh Bear backpack. We used Earplanes for the children and had no problem during take-off and landing. The children were impressed with the seat back TVs and the childrens meals. For the adults there was a choice of salmon or chicken. I was informed that there was no chicken left. I had a very bad experience with salmon pinwheels, when we last flew to Orlando 10 years ago. I spent 2-3 days being violently ill. I took the salmon with trepidation. It was very nice. But a moments later chicken meals were being passes up and down the plane by the stewards so they had not run out of chicken after all. Grrrr.
The BA service was spot on, the staff were great and the plane very clean.
We arrived at Orlando on time and the nice man at immigration liked Suzannes handiwork on the visa forms.
We picked up the bags for the final time and look for our Mears bus to transfer to hotel. We finally experience the Florida humidity. Wow, it does not seem ten years since the last time. When we arrive at All-Stars Movies, we were checked in very quickly and were to be living in the Mighty Ducks Building 2 for the next three weeks. Room 2930 to be exact.
Suzanne unpacked while I took the children to the Mighty Duck Pond Pool. We then explored the hotel, purchased our refillable mugs, sampled some of the delights of the Food Court and at 9:30pm it was lights out, after answering the childrens complains as to why did they have to go to bed when everyone else (in the pool)was still up.
Tomorrow Animal Kingdom or Dinosaur Of course its not scary.
