Day 1 : Journey to Gatwick
Got up at 8.30am feeling sick, wasnt worried as I always feel ill when I get excited. Left for Glasgow airport at 9.30am. The queue at the BA check in desks was horrendous as all the flights were checking in at the same desk. BA employee was frantically trying to find the remaining passengers for two flights in the queue to get them checked in so the planes could leave. Why they cant allocate a separate desk for each flight is beyond me. After a 45 minute wait we finally had our boarding cards in hand and meal vouchers because our flight was delayed for an hour. This was the first I had flown with BA and I was well impressed that they were giving out food vouchers for a one hour delay, that never happens with a charter airline.
Went and found somewhere to sit and low and behold I managed to find the spot beside the plane spotters, didnt hang around here long though as their radios telling them which planes were due to land and which planes had just taken off from other airports very quickly started to do my head in.
Went to get something to eat, I was still feeling sick so I just had an apple and some coke. This was when I realised that I actually prefer Pepsi, the coke was too sweet. Thought it might taste better if it was flat so I put the lid back on and shook it, unfortunately it exploded but I did mange to avoid getting any on my clothes.
Boarded the plane at 1pm and discovered we had exit seats so we had fantastic leg room. Took off at 1.10pm and landed in Gatwick North Terminal at 2.10pm. Had to go down stairs to get off plane and were bussed to the terminal building, found our luggage and then took the short monorail trip over to the South Terminal and then the short walk over to the Gatwick Hilton. Had great fun pushing my trolley which only wanted to go left.
Entered the Hilton and joined the check in queue, after a few minutes I noticed we were in the concierge queue and after reminding myself that Dixie Amos is my alter ego I moved to the correct queue. Got room key and excitedly set off to find my ultra mega posh Hilton hotel room. I was sorely disappointed, not at all what I was expecting, was just like a Travel Inn only duller but not as dull as the room we had in San Francisco. Watched Brookside and then headed back to the airport for Twilight check in. Decided to have a drink off Irn-Bru before we left and it exploded when I took the lid off. It didnt miss me this time, oh no . got me from head to toe. Decided against asking for a free upgrade to Club Class, didnt think being covered in Irn-Bru would help me get one. Check in was a breeze, only had a five minute wait and the Irn-Br had dried before we got there without leaving a stain. With boarding cards in hand (we also got the seats we had pre-booked) we had a look round the airport shops, had a McDonalds and then went back to the not ultra mega posh room at the Hilton. Watched Big Brother and went to bed.
Didnt get much sleep at all, the air conditioning was very loud and I could hear the planes and when I did dose off I kept dreaming about Cameron from Big Brother who was able to get free flights if he checked in with certain groups of 10 people, it was really weird.
