Me-27 and all around Disney lover and planner.
DH Tom-26 loves Disney and lets me do all of the planning
Day 1: Check-in, Epcot, MGM and Disneyquest
After checking out of HRP, we were headed to POFQ to begin our Disney Adventure. Tom dropped me off at the lobby, and I went right up to the desk. Now, I have only checked into a Disney hotel a couple of times, but each time, the line was long. I walked right up the counter, and Ana helped me with a big smile. I have never just walked right up, so was a great start to this vacation. Ana was very pleasant, looked for a room that was already cleaned, and actually gave me several choices. I ultimately chose room 4124, building 4 right next to the food court, main building and close to the pool not to mention, first floor which I prefer. I did have a sudden heart attack when she asked me if I wanted to purchase park admission, as this was included in our package we purchased. I swallowed my heart and said It should be included in our package, and with the click of a button, she smiled and apologized. After a long sigh, I was happy again. She provided me with tons of information on the resort, the pool times, hot tub times, bus schedule, it was all wonderful. I grabbed our keys ( our multipasses for this trip) and headed out to the car but Tom was gone. As I started to blow a fuse, I noticed someone waving from the parking lot, and discovered it was Tom, so he was saved from my rath
We drove the car over to building 4, and unloaded the car I knew that the building was close, but I never expected our room to be THAT close to the building. We were just a few steps away from the food court and the bus stop was RIGHT THERE!! When we stayed at POR (Dixie Landings when we were there in 2000) we had to walk what seemed like miles to get to the main building or a bus stop, so this was nice. We dropped our stuff off, I grabbed my backpack and off we went to Epcot.
A bus came pretty quickly, and it was no problem getting a bus as a matter of fact, the morning buses were never really full, which was surprising to me. We then went to the security check, which was quick and painless as long as other people followed directions. Many would get up to the counter and not even have their pack off of their back frustrating. Finally, we were at the entrance, and I just love the music around Disney. We picked up a park map (one of many for the trip) and headed past Spaceship Earth, which we decided to ride later on. We went to get Fast Passes for Test Track, and surprisingly, even though we arrived a little before 10am, the return time was for 11:45am. I was actually more than surprised, I expected them to be close to gone by then. We then went over to Ice Station Cool, as I had never noticed this before on previous trips. The snow was a pleasant surprise, but the sodas were an even bigger surprise. I am afraid I will have to agree with the majority on how disgusting Beverly is. Whew, it took awhile to get that taste out of my mouth!! My favorites were China (watermelon) and Mexico (Apple). Tom didnt really care for any of them, and was hoping to have a regular Coke dispenser near. He is funny.
We then headed over to Mexico and Norway, since it was close to our Fast Pass Time, we didnt want to get caught on the other side of the park. We had never really toured the countries, so I was excited to see the different cultures. Mexico was really pretty, we rode the boat ride, and looked through the shop. The glassblower was amazing!
Off to Norway, and Tom started his Shot Glass collection he has a collection, but not any from Disney, and this is a man who doesnt drink a drop of alcohol, go figure!
After Norway, it was off to Test Track, so we headed to the Fast Pass entrance. We waited in line for around 20-25 minutes, including the pre-show. For the first time, we rode this ride without any technical difficulties WOOHOO!! It was fun as always, and we would definitely have to do this again!
As our tummys grumbled, it was about time for our PS at Le Cellier, so we just headed on over hoping to get in a little early. Well, my PS was useless, as we were seated immediately, and there were only a few other people inside. To begin with, I ordered the Cheddar Cheese Soup and a smoothie (Ruby something I believe) and both were amazing. The pretzel bread was our favorite out of the choices they brought to us. We both ordered Grilled Steak Sandwiches, mine with Cheddar and mushrooms, Tom just had Cheddar cheese on his. This was THE BEST meal we had all week. The burgers were delicious and filling, and I cant wait to eat there again on our next trip. If you have never eaten here, do it, you will not regret it.
After lunch, we decided to head to Honey I shrunk the Audience, and just love this movie. I was still in shock that was at Disneyworld, so the Kodak opener kinda may me teary eyed. I really enjoy the 3-D shows at Disney, and this was just as great as I remembered it. After this attraction, we headed to Journey into Your Imagination. I remember years ago, my Aunt brought my younger brother a Figment hand puppet, and I never understood what he had to do with Disney. Well, now I do. The ride was great, but I can not compare it since I never rode it before the rehab. The hands on stations that are available after you exit the ride are great, and a lot of fund to play around with!
After this, it was about time to head over to the hotel to freshen up a bit before heading to MGM. I never thought I would take breaks, but they sure felt good, even it they were only for an hour or so.
Around 4pm, we headed to MGM and as the bus pulled up, I noticed something through the trees, and it wasnt the Mickey Hat it was Stitch. A huge Stitch greeted us toward the entrance, and I just had to take a picture, and have my picture taken with it. Security was a breeze here as well, and off we went down the main strip at MGM Studios. We rode RNR first love this ride, and then headed for the Great Movie Ride. One our way, I noticed a surf board with Lilo and Stitch on it. I went to take a picture and noticed a sign that said Meet Lilo and Stitch and it pointed towards the Animation building. Well, even though I am an adult, the child came out in me, and I just HAD to go. We headed over to the building, and there were Stitches footprints, leading you to where they sign autographs and take pictures. I was hesitant to stand in that line, until I saw other childless adults waiting, so I thought what the heck. Both of these characters were about the size of children I am pretty short, and both were shorter than I was. They did a wonderful job portraying the characters Stitch tied up one of the guards, and really enjoyed grabbing mister fans, and squirting people with it. It was very funny, and I know the kids and adults alike enjoyed it. Stitch didnt really mess with me, but Lilo took my hand and swung it back and forth I was nervous Stitch would take my mister fan, so I left it with Tom I know, I am a party pooper .
After this, I was in need of a refreshment, so I decided to try a Mickey Bar that I heard about so much on these boards. Who would believe that I would never have tried one of these bars, and have been to Disney around 5 times. It was delicious, though the chocolate began to melt before I even took the first bite. I lost some of the chocolate, but this calorie burst was worth every bite!
As we were walking towards the exit, the last showing of Millionaire was beginning, so we went ahead and got into the line even though I thought I was fast, and got the answers right most of the time, my number never showed up once on that screen I HAVE to learn the secret, cause I was just a pushin that button, and thought I was doing well not well enough, I guess. It was a lot of fun, though and enjoyed it.
We decided to leave MGM and head to DTD as I wanted to check out Disney Quest. A headache was setting in, either from the sugar buzz from my Mickey Bar, or because I hadnt had any real food since our early lunch. I decided I would grab a bite to eat after Disney Quest. The elevator ride is one of the most interesting I have been on it was a ride in itself! Tom and I designed a rollercoaster called the Jolly Riot (Tom named it, not me!!!) It was a level 4 on the scary level, but it was a lot of fun. Didnt help my headache any, but what a thrill it was! I tried to make a toy at Sids, but just couldnt get it to work, and my patience was running thin, so I gave up. We toured the place a little bit, and then decided to leave as my headache was not improving and Tom was getting pretty hungry. We stopped at the McDonalds in the Marketplace (yes, I know, another McDonalds, but everything else was closed, and we just wanted a quick bite). After eating, I began to feel better, so we just headed on back to the hotel where I unpacked our suitcase. I put on pajamas and sat on the bed watching the Disney info channels. I could watch these 24/7, just like the weather channel. Tom, on the otherhand, gets a little bored watching the same thing over and over, and was itching to turn the channel. I gave in, and just switched it off, and went dreaming of what we would do tomorrow.
Tomorrow: Animal Kingdom and Epcot!!
