Ugh.. so David and my dad went over to the jewelers last night to talk to the guy that he actually bought the ring from.. my dad's pretty good at getting things taken care of. My mom and I sat home in suspense awaiting for them to walk in the door..
About 45 minutes later, they pull in the driveway and my mother and I just looked at each other. This wasn't going to be good. And, well, it wasn't.
Turns out, the only thing they said to do was to either get a new stone or they can cut the existing stone down. Either way we were going to have to pay something!
My first thought was how can you cut the stone down? It's going to ruin the entire affect of the diamond and the ring! It's a 3 stone ring, cutting it down would make ALL of the stones the SAME SIZE. That's just stupid. So I told Dave I would really rather not do that.
David then called them back and said that I'd be picking up the ring because I didn't want to have it cut down.. the manager seemed rather upset and that he really wants to work with us to make this right. (yeah RIGHT! liar) So David told him that I want to try and use my grandmother stone (1kt round diamond) and replace the main stone on the ring. If it won't work in the existing setting we're going to get a custom setting made up. The guy INSISTED that we come in and talk to him on Sunday about it. So that's what we're going to do..
I REALLY don't want to take any chances with my grandmother's stone. So I kinda, sorta don't want to go back to them? They've jerked us around enough as it is. They gave us no warrantee on the ring, not gia certificate for the diamond and if we wanted one we'd have to pay for it, and they're not very flexible with something that I think was caused by the prongs being too tight. (my father and I super examined the ring the other day and came to the conclusion that the prong HAD to of been too tight on the diamond which caused it to chip TWICE. the chips are directly next to the prongs and diamonds should NOT chip like that)
I kinda want to cut all ties and just go somewhere else.
I'm stuck in such a hard spot right now. David mentioned just selling the ring and buying a completely brand new one. But I told him I don't want a NEW ring, I just want to change the center stone. This is what YOU picked out for me and I plan on keeping that way. He responded with that we're probably going to have to get a new setting anyway so it won't be the same. Which like I told him, I want to keep the setting the SAME design, just changing the center, and we would still be using the remaining 12 diamonds that are in perfect shape. Ugh. It sucks so bad. I don't want to hurt his feelings.. but I don't want a cracked diamond! or HALF of a cracked diamond for that matter in my ENGAGEMENT ring.

Am I being stubborn and selfish???
This sucks. Seriously. Guess we'll see what Sunday brings..
