I have a question for anyone who has gone to David's bridal & might know the answer to this.

I have a plus sized figure (weight around 210) & I am heading to David's bridal to look for gowns.

Will they have dresses to try on in larger sizes? I will be so embarrassed if I go to try them on & none fit me :(

Does anyone know?

Thank you

my best suggestion would be to call them first just to be sure, but I was at David's Bridal in my area this past weekend and saw a few plus sized women trying on gowns.
I'm sure you'll be fine, but as a fellow plus sized woman, sometimes the phone call ahead of time is good for soothing anxiety :goodvibes

Yes they have lots of different sizes. One thing you might encounter is that in newer styles they might not have your exact size in a specific dress. They didn't in mine. But usually at most stores they would have similar styles tgat can also give you an idea. Also, don't get all blah when you find out that bridal sizes run small like i did! :scared1:

Having been through it, watched bridal shows and having heard others' stories I realize that, although nerve wracking, it's pretty common for brides of any size not to have tried on their exact dress in the appropriate style BEFORE plunking down the cash!! Strange but true!!

i didn't go to david's, but...

lol, the sample they had of my dress was so small.... i had my stepmom try it on  i just wanted to see it on a body :rotfl: they put me in one in my size in a similar style of the designers to show me how it would fit.

i was able to try *most* of the regular samples on with no issue, so you should be fine. they also should have a supply of plus sized gowns available.

That's one of the best things about David's Bridal, IMO. They have all sorts of dresses in all sorts of sizes. It was so nice to be able to go in and actually see what the dress really looked like on me before buying it. :thumbsup2

I weigh just about the same as you. David's bridal had plenty of plus sized choices and didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all.

yes they have way big sizes I believe they go all the way up to 30 but really only stock up to 24ish...you will be more than fine however everyone is posting right, I am usually a 16/18 (thanks to a big chest...blah) but I digress LOL So don't feel like OMG I put weight on, I went with a size 20 as the dress was cut very small :)

I agree with the above posts. I am about the same size as you and recently went to David's to get ides for the style of dress I went. They had plenty of plus sized dresses for me to try on (even larger sizes as well).

Also don't get discouraged if they don't have your exact size. I saw a dress I loved but they didn't have my size, they had one 2 sizes smaller than what I needed, but the girl still had me try it on (her advice was to put the dress on over my head instead of stepping into it) worked perfect just couldn't zip the back up all the way.

Good Luck, and Have Fun with It. ;)

Apparently they have alot in plus sizes... they just didn't have any of the kind i wanted when i called them when i first started dress shopping. the guy on the phone said they didn't have any ballgown dresses that i would be able to try on.
i even told him that i'd been able to try on some 12s at another shop and, while i couldn't zip them up, i was able to see how they looked on me. he still said no.

i don't know if they just really didn't have any i could try or if he just didn't want me there.

My sister weighs about the same as you and she was able to try on some plus size gowns @ David's. The one dissapointment that my sister had was that they didn't have plus size samples of all of the gowns available in plus sizes. There were 2-3 dresses that she wanted to try on (that come in plus sizes) that they didn't have plus samples of. She tried a 12 on of one of the dresses to get the idea (without zipping it). I agree with the others that you should call ahead and make sure they have a good selection, especially if you have a certain dress in mind. Happy shopping!

Honestly, I weigh just a tad bit more than you and I ordered a size 16!!

I looked online through the dresses they offer in plus size and wrote down my favorites. They had a few of them in stock and one of them they only had in "misses" but she still put it on me and clipped it so I could see how it would look on me.

My consultant was AMAZING. I am incredibly self concious about my arms and having her see me in a strapless corset...eeek :scared1: But she made me SO comfortable. and EVERYONE at davids told me how wonderful my dress i picked looked on me.

I hope you have better luck with davids in the future. You're getting your WEDDING dress. They should make you feel much more special then they are!

I purchased my gown from David's Bridal, and I am a size 28/30. When I called and made my appointment, I told them some item numbers of the gowns I wanted to try on, just to give them a heads up. Now none of them fit perfectly. I'm very "hippy" so I put them on over my head and just zipped up as best as I could. There were much smaller women in the shop trying on gowns who couldn't zip up all the way. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Bottom line is that it is a wonderful experience to purchase your bridal gown. Go with an open mind and have a great time!

I am not a big DB person (the sales people are too pushy for my taste :)), but they had an entire rack of plus sized dresses at the one I was in. The girl I had helping me was actually a DB bride who was plus sized, and she was very accommodating and sensitive to my size (I'm a size 16).

DB is a great option. They are affordable and have such a huge variety. Sounds like I am the same size as you. I tried on dresses from 16-22. Some were big and some wouldnt zip. I dont think any of their dresses run true to size! haha! The sample might not be perfect but will give you a great idea! Just have fun and dont worry bout the zipper!

Some locations are better than others for service. I have 2 near me in northern va and one stinks for service and other is eh ok. I went to one in Pittsburgh with my grandma just for my accessories and veil she wanted to buy and they blew me away with service! Depends on the consultant and location. Focus on you and the dresses!

Have fun! You will know when its "the dress"!

I am your exact weight and visited the David's Bridal in Orlando and was able to try on 7 dresses in my size. The consultant I had was wonderful and she was able to pick up quickly my taste and style. I did not have an appointment because I was in town on vacation. I would recommend going doing the week because it is less crowded during the weekday versus the weekend.
