David’s rental store has a great weekly rate for Hilton head next February 2023. We have always gone with DVC rental store. Is David’s as reputable? What is the difference? Thx!

Yes David's reputable.

Some owners don't like it because of its policies when the resorts had to close due to the Pandemic, and its policy regarding the rules for if that happens again.

Make sure you understand the cancellation policy, because David's is different from the one at DVC Rental Store.

There are many threads about the two companies. Some of the posts are from the points of view of the owners.

Both David's and DVC Rental Store base their price on the number of points required to book a stay. That number will be the same regardless of who you choose to rent through. The price difference is a function of the $/point that each charges.

DVC Rental Store charges more $/point than David's. They pay owners more, so they can attract more owners. More owners means that a renter's chances for a successful match are higher.

David's has a "no cancellations" policy. DVC Rental Store has a "cancel for any reason" policy but you need to read the fine print.

David's has a "no changes" policy whereas the DVC Rental Store offers changes (within reason) for a fee.

David's requires a $133 deposit to begin looking for your match. DVC Rental Store charges $100.

David's requires payment in full minus the deposit at the time that your reservation is confirmed. DVC Rental Store requires 25% of the total price minus the $100 deposit at the time that your reservation is confirmed with the balance due no less than 75 days prior to arrival. They will also accept payments spread out over time up to the 75-day mark.

As mentioned by @Best Aunt, many owners did not care for the way David's handled the pandemic shutdown and are not keen on the current force majeure policy in their intermediary agreement with owners. But as a renter, your concern should be how David's or the DVC Rental Store might handle your side of things in the event that HHI is closed for some unforeseen reason.
