Davenport FL?

Has anyone ever stayed in Davenport FL and rented a house? It seems cheaper and some places have lakes that you can fish in (a biggie for DH). We are going around Christmas and my In-Laws are taking the family. Thanks for any replies!

Davenport is a very big area so if you have the name of the community you may get a few more answers.I stay in this area on a sub division that is close to the 192/27 junctions and find it convenient for Wal-mart at Cagan Crossings,Publix at Berry Town Centre,Super Target on 192.The I4 is not far away so access to the coasts is good and the 15-25 min drive to which ever park I am heading for is no big deal for me.

We have stayed in Davenport several times. We stayed on 27 near the 192 junction three times and then we stayed in the Champions Gate area last year and plan to again this year. We liked both areas a lot. Both areas can take 15-20 minutes to get to the parks but it is super easy driving and in my opinion worth the addition 5-10 minutes for the amount of savings you can get. If you have any questions about the location of a community or a particular community or house, we might be able give you more feedback about that particular area.

Lots of people stay in Davenport. There are many subdivisions and they are within 20 min. or so to Disney. There are two major areas: Route 27 south of the intersection with 192 and the other is the Champions Gate area to the east and south of that exit down to the Route 27 exit is on I -4 .

I will be staying in Davenport when I go in August. We rented a house in the gated community of West Haven. The owner of the house that we rented said it is next to Champions Gate.
Seemed like a good price so we jumped on it.

I haven't stayed here, but based on this map, I think it is near the Solana Resort where I stayed a few years ago.

Calabay Parc at Tower Lake is actually further down 27 than Calabay Parc -It is confusing when there are communities with similar names .
It is south of I-4 and towards Haines City.

I like the Davenport area (and the great bargains that can be had there! ). We've stayed there in one of the gated communities and been well satisfied.

That said, south of I-4 towards Haines City would be too far out for my taste. Now if it was immediately south and very close to I-4, I would consider it, but not much further down. There's a lot of traffic in that area too.


ETA: I know there are some communities in the Bass Lake area, and it's much closer in. We stayed in that area one year and saw people fishing there. Here's a quick example I found (although I don't know anything about this particular property) - http://www.1stfororlando.com/Bass-Lake-Villa.htm.

I'm a big fan of Davenport and have stayed there for the last three trips and I am booked to stay there for a fourth trip next year. I am not sure I would stay out as far as this community seems to be. I would need to be saving large amounts of money. When we stayed in Windwood Bay, it took us 17 minutes to get to Magic Kingdom. We got on I-4 at exit 58, so that will give you an idea of how long the drive will be. It appears that you would be getting on at Exit 55. Based on the map I looked at, I don't think this community is right near the exit either, but the person you are renting from could give you a better idea of how long it takes to get to the exit or what the best route is for traveling to the parks. Now, if my DH liked to fish, I might have to compromise and stay in this location so he could do that. You just have to decide how often he plans to fish and how often you plan to be in the parks and weigh the pros and cons. Good luck.
