Ok, I will admit that I am not a Dave Ramsey follower. I haven't read his books, nor do I subscribe to his debt erasing plans. But more power to those that do. But I am somewhat aware of his philosophies. I was listening to the radio today, and heard a commercial with him telling people to buy these brand new houses from some builder with granite and stainless upgrades. Does this seem strange to anyone?!

Dave Ramsey has no problem with buying nice things if you can afford them.

Not really. He isn't against acquiring things, just going into debt to do so. It is possible to buy a house without getting into mortgage trouble. I think he advises 15 year fixed rate if you can't purchase it outright with cash. Not sure, I've only watched his tv show a few times. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with spending money if you have it to spend and have left over to save.

He does recommend 15 year fixed rates and still paying off early or paying cash.

He paid CASH for his multi million dollar home near where I live, it takes up the whole hill but it took time to built because people are not use to dealing in cash!

You mean like an advertisement? It sounds like they were a paid ad paying him to sell their product.

I did not mean to offend, it just meant most people building a house, especially that size are backed by the bank and the people working on the house normally know they will get their money. I work construction and people who are paying cash for a home are scarier, we have been burnt a few times.

I am not trying to offend anyone, but it is true in the hard times that are going on people are leery of things like that!

But why? Aren't you getting money up front?

Usually not for the whole project. It is most likely a % down, then a % upon certain intervals of completion. Without bank approval/guarantee, the builder has no way to know if that cash will still be available for the completion payments.

I have a few builder friends, they too, prefer to work with bank notes and the likes.
