Dave’s Dvc insurance?

Just got booked for an upcoming trip to Dave’s. Was looking into insurance options given the non refundable nature but this is something I’m new to

Can I insure the dvc rental only?

Or do I need to book flights too and insure the whole trip?

Just a little confused by the quotes saying “total cost of trip must be accurate”

Typically, you can insure as much or as little as you want as long as it doesn't exceed the total non-refundable pre-paid costs of your trip.

I fly SW so when I rented from David's, I only insured the trip portion. I do know that if I had wanted to add my flights when I booked them, it would have been easy to add them.

We only insure non-refundable costs. So if we rented a car but there's no prepayment, deposit, or cancellation fee we wouldn't include that. When we went to Italy last year, we added the cost of the cancellation fee for our flights - which was reasonably substantial. We prepaid for tickets at a variety of sights which were non-refundable and we did include those along with any cancellation fees for our Airbnb rentals (I'm not sure if there were cancellation fees or if it was minimal). Most of the cost of the insurance was for trip interruption and medical costs. If we had cancelled prior to the trip, the insurance would have paid out very little since we were covering very little because most of our costs were either refundable or did not have cancellation fees. The biggest expense would have been if we had issues while on vacation but that's not dependent on the outlay of costs but on your age, length of visit, location, etc.

This just means that the trip costs you are insuring is accurate. So if you are insuring a flight and it cost you $500, you can't insure it for $1000. If the rest of the trip is costing you $2,000 but you aren't insuring it or it's refundable they don't care because they won't be reimbursing you for it if you don't end up going.
