Daughter wanted to stay at ASMovies instead of CSR

Maybe I missed it but I don’t see where the OP mentioned her daughter complained about anything.

Well my 16-year-old daughter really wanted to stay at ASMovies in January rather than at CSR, so I switched us. What is wrong with her? Lol. Hope it will be a good ,move on my part. I booked a preferred room.

Tell her that CBR has water slides and more pools to swim in.... Late at night.

OK, maybe she didn't complain, but she pressured mom into changing from a moderate to a value based on her wants. I'm just amazed at kids' influence on vacations, that's all. It would never have occurred to my sister or me to even SAY we would rather stay somewhere else.

we prefer the values over any mod also! and we are DVC. We just booked ASMovies for a quick fall trip. Newly redone rooms, clean, nice foodcourt and the bus service is far better than any moderate and even some deluxes.

My 30-something year old sister is the same way! The Murphy bed is a nice feature in the rooms, though. And having the McDonald's within walking distance was good for our breakfast budget.

Or maybe she didn't pressure her mom. You're making an assumption. Maybe mom asked her opinion on where she would like to stay and decided to go with that.

Times have changed. Back in the 70's/80's we just hopped in the car with mom and dad. We didn't even know where we were going. Lol. I don't think my parents asked my opinion of anything.

And sure it's me these days paying/making the final decision, but I'd definitely ask my teens their thoughts about where we should stay. I value their opinions.

I love when my daughter gets excited about our trips with me. So I try to let her make some choices where I can. That doesn’t mean she is demanding anything. And at age 20 she’s still excited to go with me.

I don’t see anything wrong with planning a trip with your teen and letting them have some input. It’s their trip, too. Just my opinion, i would not judge anyone for planning their vacation differently than I do.

I am really going to be doing my home work in regards to finding out if there will be any big tour groups there when we visit. If I find such, I will change it up. I have done that before.

Renting DVC points is a good way to go if you plan far enough out. That will get you a studio room at a DVC resort for moderate price.

We’re DVC so we always stay at DVC resorts, but after my kids incessant whining we booked a split AoA/ASMu trip a few years ago, and they’ve been asking to stay at those two resorts again ever since. and my younger kids are mad that they don’t really remember those trips so considering doing AoA next year. My friend is going the same time as us this February and they’re staying at Pop and my kids are begging to go hang out with them at Pop.

Since joining DVC, I miss the values, too! Not so much that I’m booking a room or even visiting the resorts, but I miss the in your face theming and fun atmosphere, as well as the cafeteria style eateries. I like the variety and I want to get that secret suitcase spy thing I heard about. Is that back?

I am amazed at the number of kids who have so much sway over where their families stay! Growing up I was just happy enough to get to go - it would never have occurred to me to complain about where my parents selected for us to stay.

It is on my bucket list to stay at ASM and I really want a room in the dalmatian section. Looks fun!

We just stayed at ASM for the first time last week. It was so cute, especially the Dalmation section! We were in the Fantasia section and I loved that too. So cool to walk out under the Sorcerer's hat every time we went somewhere.

We were in the Dalmatian section 3 weeks ago. Our room was very close to one of the big statues. I was worried about noise levels - shouldn't have, with the door shut and the curtains closed we didn't hear anything from outside the room.

I actually grew up not taking family vacations at all. I agree it's interesting to see the range of experiences.

The worst experience that I have ever had have been staying at the Values. Never again am I staying at a the value hotels. This is with having 35+ stays on property over a couple of decades. Something always goes wrong at the values, usually other guest related. Plus the rooms are smaller and the bus stops are not covered. Lots of little things that add up to a worse experience. I am glad some of you like them, it means more availability at the moderates and deluxes.

Same here. I tried it again a couple years ago b/c I thought DS would like it better, but I only lasted 1 night & switched at rack rate for the rest of the trip.

I grew up in the time when kids were not encouraged to express their wishes either. (And family vacations were tent camping trips in nearby state parks) We did not do the same with our kids, my 28 year old DS just requested a family trip to one of our old vacation spots in Wisconsin! And we said OK. I think it is nice the OP is considering her DD's wishes.

I stayed at AS Sports for a few days once, it was OK. A few stays at Pop, it was nice.

MANY more folks feel this way than people can imagine!(The term "VALUE RESORT" needs to be changed IMMEDIATELY-automatically creates a negative "stigma".)

We would discuss WHERE we would go, but in terms of saying “This is the resort/hotel we want”? Never. It would never have occurred to us to say “But we don’t want that place, we want this one.” We we’re just happy to be going on a trip.

There is input and then there is a whole family trip changing because of what one kid wants.
