Those who are non smokers and have dated someone who smokes...how was your experience?

Those who haven’t dated someone who smokes, would you...?

yes, it just doesn't bother me to much. Plus while I have never smoked its not a good habit, but I figure they just have to also put up with a few of my not perfect things about me

when I was a teen I did and it was gross- the cigarette breath and smell of stale cigarette smoke on them was horrible- and OMG the smell of coffee and cigerettes on the breath was just so disgusting! That was the one and only time and it did not last long because it was to gross. I don't even have any friends that smoke-just not something I care to be around.

The first few years DH and I were together I was a smoker and he was not. I think it didn't bother him as much because everyone in his family smoked, and he himself had recently quit just before we started dating.

Now that I've quit, though, I don't know if I could live with a smoker. For sure they'd have to do all smoking outside, but even then the smell lingers on clothes, hair, etc.

My ex smoked. It didn't bother me until I got pregnant, that was actually the first sign that something was up.

Now, today, I would not date someone who smokes. It just isn't something that I want to be exposed to anymore.

I have asthma, so that would be an instant dealbreaker for me. I can't be around cigarette smoke without it setting off bronchial spasms.

Me too. When I’ve had friends that started smoking I gave up the friendship. Thankfully that was the age around 18-21 when people were trying different things and moving friendships at University a lot anyway.

I did it once. He didn't smoke a ton around me because he knew I didn't smoke and to me that makes a difference. However after being with my husband a total of 10 years now I don't know how I even dated someone who smoked because being around my best friend who smokes is hard enough and we get together usually once or twice a month sometimes more. Smoke can trigger my allergies too. It's also annoying how much my clothes smell like smoke even down to my bra after hanging out with her and to get the smoke out of my hair it takes 4 or 5 shampoos. I can't imagine living with that day in and day out.

The smell is pretty bad to be honest. The guy I dated had a horrible terrible smoker's cough and it was just plain annoying.

My sister-in-law and her husband smoke though they recently switched to vaping--she didn't start smoking until she started dating her now husband. I'm not sure if they realized just how much of their lives revolved around needing to be able to go smoke.

I wouldn’t.

Honestly, I find the smell nauseating, so I can’t imagine being able to overlook that to be attracted to a smoker.

My husband is a smoker. He always smokes outside. When we were dating he would stand in the doorway and smoke with his head hanging out the door. He still smokes. He never smokes around the kids. He has always been good about popping breath mints or brushing his teeth before giving me a kiss.

Didn't like to kiss the guy that smoked. And sitting in a closed up car = smoke scented air, yuck. Didn't date them long. Unfortunately, there was more than one of them (back in the day smoking was "cool")

One of the reasons that I picked the guy I did to marry was on one of our early dates, out of the blue, he said "I decided a long time ago I couldn't be involved with a woman who smokes." I knew for sure we were soul mates.

No way, no how.

My parents died from smoking. Both of them.

Thankfully, my husband doesn't smoke.

I can pretty much guarantee that our son won't date a smoker.

Twenty years ago when smoking was more prevalent I did date a few smokers and it didn’t overly bother me, but that’s when people still smoked in bars and some restaurants so I was more acclimated to it if that’s the right word.

Now, I almost never see smokers, and when I do the smell really bothers me. There’s no way I could now.

I cannot STAND the smell of cigarette smoke, it makes me physically ill. I remember the days where smoking was still allowed in some restaurants and I could barely breathe throughout the meal. Ugh. "Non-smoking section"...Ha HA.

When I was really small and smoking was more prevalent (my grandma smoked, I spent a lot of time at the home of my mom's friends who smoked), I don't remember it bothering me as much. Somewhere along the line as smoking became less and less common, I guess my "tolerance" to it disappeared. Like, REALLY disappeared.

It's kind of funny because when certain tv or movie characters smoke, I find it rather sexy, LOL. But of course that's because I don't have to smell it.
