hi has anyone ever used one online if so how are they and how much does it cost?

yes. not embarrassed to say so but embarrassed to say how many:blush: here is a break down.

free:
plenty of fish- lots of guys but had a hard time narrowing down and people that wanted the same type of relationships i did. also got tons of random messages
ok cupid- ok lol lots of men on it, many do not seem active and like POF can take some work. for ex it does automatic matches but does not take basics like height into consideration, its all based on your answers to questions

paying:
eharmony- little selection. i did not have a lot in common with the matches i was offered. i felt very cornered by it as i was only allowed to see the matches it wanted me to see. also surprisingly still people on there that did not want serious relationships. not gonna lie, at the time i was still in retail and my income was lower and i think the darn thing was taking that into account which was frustrating.
yahoo singles- years ago. it was ok, i did meet a boyfriend off there but it was almost by accident

religious:
catholicmatch- many non active profiles. pricey for the selection and many were believe it or not judgemental and not kind
i tried another random christian dating website a few years ago and can't remember the name. it was cheap but again few active people and some were not even christian! yup a guy actually said he was jewish and just on it because he was tired of jewish girls:confused3

i was going to try match in the spring, most of my friends with fiances or husbands met them on match. it seems to be the happy medium of dating websites with good results.

It's been a long time since I have been on (about 7-8 years now) so these figures are out of date but should give you a ballpark. I think eHarmony was fairly pricey compared to match and like pp, I didn't get good results. My fav was the connection with a guy who said he wanted kids. Turned out that as a divorce, he wanted only his own he already had and had had a vasectomy. Well, oops. Match I remember getting a deal for $20/mo and prepaid 3 months. Ended up on for 2 weeks before I met my DH and took down my profile. We were engaged 4 months later and the rest is history. Haven't heard about some of the others and match is a lot more of you doing some of the work but I found better options there than what I had been getting through eHarmony. With that said, I know of 2 couples from eHarmony. I also know of 4 couples from match (excluding us) right off the top of my head.

I met my DH on one. I have no idea what they cost now a days though, but have lots of friends who also met their husbands online.

Met my DH on Match but don't remember cost. It was my own mother who pushed me to do it as my sisters each met their DH on match also. Tried Eharmony with no luck.

I met my husband on yahoo personals. They're gone now but I think it was like $20 a month.

Know of a couple married couples that also met on Match.com

I met my husband on Plentyoffish.com back in 2007. My friend did too! It was free and you could be specific what types of people show up in your searches. You could filter out the ones that did not meet your criteria. There were a lot of creeps on there, so you would have to kinda research the ones that message you. It was pretty easy to spot the real people looking for a relationship. You have to not keep communication through there, but move on to phone. Always add them as a friend on FB! I had met several dates from there from genuine men. Free is always better!! :thumbsup2

I did several different free trials from other sites and they seemed too lengthy or complicated. :confused3

thanks everyone my sister overseas just starting looking online as she lost her husband but im not so sure bit scared plus if you have not dated awhile not sure what to say.

Don't laugh (based on my Screen Name) but I've used Ok Cupid many times and met some really great guys. In fact I met my current and absolutely wonderful bf on Ok Cupid

I used chemistry.com and met my husband 2 years ago. I think it was about $30/month. I tried match and it felt like a meat market.

I met my husband on Match about 8 years ago. While I was using the service I went out with quite a few guys. There were a couple of dates that weren't great, but overall I thought the quality of the people I met was pretty high (plus I was SUPER picky about who I'd actually meet for a drink or coffee). Even the guys that didn't work out weren't creepy stalkers or anything - mainly just people who had lied on their profile.

I also did eHarmony for a short period of time - much more expensive and they matched me with a lot of people who lived far enough away that it made developing a relationship challenging. In the end, I preferred to use the cheaper Match that gave me greater access to my local area and be my own compatibility screener. It worked out for me :cool1:

I met my dh thru match almost 8 years ago. I did eharmony, but it was quite a bit more expensive. Also, it matched me up with people that were TOO much like me.

I think match was about $25 a month back then. Eharmony was around $100 to sign-up, I believe.

I met my husband through e-Harmony about 9 years ago. I know they used to offer a discount if you did the profile but didn't sign up right away. I tried all of the other ones too but was much happier with e-Harmony. I met a lot of guys and went on several dates until I connected with my hubby and then I was done.

hi has anyone ever used one online if so how are they and how much does it cost?

I have never used a dating site. However, my sister in laws both use plenty of fish religiously. Based on their results I would never, ever use that site.

They have dated nothing but unemployed leeches for the last several years. Obviously their fault for dating the wrong kind of men (and obviously, not everyone without a job fits this description)...however, I would hope that with a paid site you may find a better quality date.

Currently both his sisters have their "catches" living with them. One refuses to work because he doesn't want to pay child support. The other one claims to have a job with the town highway department and is just using vacation time, but he never has money and he just plays video games all day.

My DH wasn't raised like this so I don't know why his sisters are acting so desperate and supporting grown men who have no desire to go out and earn a living. And again, I'm not saying everyone on this dating site is like my sisters boyfriends, BUT, the warning is there that you have to be very careful when vetting your dates.

My first piece of advice is to be cautious when using online dating sites. I had success, but not without some frogs along the way.

PAID SITES

Eharmony: Never found anyone on there. More women than men in my opinion.
Match: Met what I thought was a nice guy, turned out he was just trying to scam money out of me. I reported him to Match and his yahoo account to the FBI for internet fraud.

FREE SITES

Plenty of Fish: As a previous poster said, only low lifes here in my experience.
OKCupid: Met a couple questionable people here. I did end up meeting the love of my life on this site though. I also know a couple people who met and have since been married through this site.

It's all in the effort you are willing to put into it as far as I'm concerned. But an ounce of caution goes a long way.

My Sister has met 2 nice guys online i am so envious having been loneley for many years i would like to try it but i am only separated not divorced would any agency allow me to join .?

I tried both eHarmony and Match last year but ended up with no matches on either. The matches both sites suggested were all far from where I live. One of my criteria was that I was looking for someone local, or at least within a 100 mile radius. None of their matches were anywhere near me. I tried contacting a few of the men who sounded promising but no one responded. It was a total waste of money.
