Date nite child care, how much would you pay?

I am considering offering weekend night childcare for extra Disney money (and because I enjoy it). How much do you/would you be willing to pay for such a service? I figured that I would include a meal, snack, activities, etc. Thanks!

I pay a babysitter $8/hour for 2 kids, so I think $4/hour/kid is not out of line. I know a lot of this depends on where you live.

Make sure you check into the laws of your state. In Maryland it is illegal to watch kids, even one, for $, even in the evening without a license. Some states let a person watch a few children without a license.

Of course if you are talking about the children of people you know you might be less likely to be caught since it would be word of mouth, but is something to consider.

Aside from the legal issues, how much is tough. It really depends on the going rate for daycare, babysitting, and evening programs in your area. Our local community center has occasional nights that they do this type of care and they charge $20 for residents/$30 for non-res. It runs from 6-9pm and includes pizza, crafts, games, etc. That is for grades 1-5.

I do afterschool daycare, which of course isn't the same thing, but on the rare occasion that I do drop in care I can easily get $5-8/hr. My 16yo DD babysits and gets around $7/hr for one child and $10/hr for 2 or 3 children.

You have got to be kidding about Maryland.... You are saying that the neighbor girl can't watch my kids for 2 hours??? OH BROHTHER....

I pay 10.00 an hour for a babysitter and that is for one child, my house, my food etc....

I pay between 8-10 an hour I round up. Thats for 3 kids, my house and they are asleep.

A person can babysit in the child's house (which is what my DD does), but an adult cannot do daycare in the adult's home (family home daycare), even for one child, without a license. Don't know if they can watch a relatives child for $ without the license--I've never been in that situation.

In my state (Missouri) you can watch 4 children that are not your own without needing a license. I don't know how that would apply to evenings/nights though. I would think $5-6 per child would be a good rate. There are places in my area that have child drop-off service all day and into the night. I think they're open until midnight on the weekend. Here's their website Kidsplay. That could give you an idea of what to charge.

We go out once a week without the children and pay under $10 for three kids. Actually, I trustmy oldest (12) to watch the baby completely, but she and my 7 yr old son fight, so I still think they need some supervision.

The going rate around here, when I was looking for a sitter was $8-$12.

I pay $4 per hour to the local teen girls in the area, even when my DD is asleep. Adults get paid more. One of my DD's pre-school teachers charges $8 per hour, but I can use him on school nights.

We've been paying $10/hr for local girls to babysit. But they have been older, 16-20 years old. Oh, that's for 2 kids ages 5& 9, so no diapers.

If you are specializing in date night child care, I would consider a flat rate with an extra hourly charge if they do not make it home by a certain time. You may also consider an extra charge for more than one child--to cover the cost of meals, snacks, etc.

Thanks everyone for your responses! Sorry it took me so long to get back. I had already checked on the laws in our area and I can watch 4 kids plus 2 of my own before needing a license. I appreciate the help that you gave me in deciding how much to charge.

My friend, who has a home daycare, offers a special date night once a month. She charges (I think) $15 per kid with a max per family. (Like I would not pay $45, even though I have three kids. I think I just paid $30) She provides snacks (no dinner) and fun crafts for the kids.

Where do you live? I need to move there! I only watch 2 kids after school and still need the license. ARG!

Whatever you do, make sure you charge enough. Easier to lower the rate than increase.
