DAS won't really work for us... looking for other tips

I am sure your husband had encountered stupid and rude people mind other people's business elsewhere in his life. This time, he may encounter one at the park.

Stupid, rude, and ignorant people are going to be stupid, rude, and ignorant no matter the venue. It is an unfortunate fact of life in America that we think "freedom of speech" means that we should use that right at all times.

I can say that even when, years ago, I stood up from my wheelchair to stretch and walk for a few minutes, my sister sat down (her health problems developed later - she was just tired and there was a seat right there) - no one said anything. I am sure we looked like "two teenagers taking turns" in a wheelchair - and I suppose we almost were. I needed the chair, but I also needed to walk. By the end of the day, it would be silly for a person with blisters on her feet to NOT use a seat which we have to tote around anyway.

He can park the scooter and walk whenever he wants - and I suggest he do so for shows especially (though maybe not for backless benches), so that the whole family can sit together and not sit in the back row. But the slowly moving line (on an incline, which is one reason they do not allow the folding seats) for Soarin that is 1/4 mile long? Keep the scooter.

Honestly, the most common stupid thing I have said to me is "You're really lucky you get to sit down" or "I wish I had a chair." They are not attacking me or thinking I am faking. They are just dumb enough to speak without thinking - because what they want is a seat, not a life-long extremely painful medical condition. Stupid comment, but not mean or personal.

Really, I say reserve a scooter now. It is much cheaper if you get one off-site, and the longer you rent one, the less expensive each day is. For many places, you start getting discounts once you have a 3-day rental or longer. So it is more cost-effective just to have one the whole time.

And before he says one word about "I am too young to need one" - you can tell him I am 28, full time wheelchair user since 25 - had to make that choice myself, and I look perfectly healthy, and I can walk short distances if I must - so I look just fine getting on and off of rides. My point is NOT to compete, but to prove there is no such thing as "too young." Unfortunately, bad backs and such do not respect age.
