Just back. Summer weather is fickle and a lot of the rides we had return times for were shut down for lightning by the time it was our turn.

It was the last day of our trip when someone at guest relations told me that these DAS passes should be automatically becoming Any Attraction passes in the app when the ride is down.

They never did. Not once. If you're going soon and this happens to you, you have to go to the (closed) attraction and get a paper recovery pass to use later OR maybe guest relations could reassign your DAS pass to an immediate return at a different ride. It made a huge impact on our trip- DD would wait 100 minutes for Space, for example, it would get shut down, and lines for the rest of the park were long so we just left, not utilizing DAS at all. We wasted a DAS return probably a dozen times because of weather.

The guest services person said she'd report that the DAS returns aren't converting to IT, but I'm sure we aren't high up on the list of priorities. I'm also using Android, maybe that made a difference. Anyway hope this helps someone. If rides close that you have a return time for, go to them and get a paper pass or get an immediate return for another attraction.

Were they handing out paper return passes for the people in the standby queue? They should have offered you one of those at least?

I'm not sure, because we were using the app to see if the ride was running. If it wasn't running, we didn't walk back over there (usually it was raining) But in the future we will for that reason!

I was there last week, and luckily only had one instance where my DAS return time would need to be converted. It was for Slinky Dog in HS, and I got the notification that it had been converted to an Any Attraction pass (excluding RotR, obviously). I didn't need to go to GR or the ride itself. Of interesting note, my wife's DAS return time didn't convert, even though the DAS is for me. By the time we were ready to ride, however, it was back up and operational, and we chose to ride Slinky Dog rather than use the Any Attraction anywhere else. So, I'm not sure if there would have been an issue with the fact that her's hadn't converted as well. But, I was prepared to have that conversation with the CM if necessary.

I also use Android for my mobile device and for running MDE, but it's all on their backend anyway, so that shouldn't make much difference.

I will say, though, that experiencing large groups of people going into the FastPass queue with Any Attraction passes right before my return time was a bit of an annoyance making our overall wait times much longer than if we'd been able to just wait in the standby line on several attractions due to the heavy rain showers and lightning/thunder in the area last week. There's not much Disney can do about it, but is an instance that people don't consider when they see us going down the FastPass lane and think that we're somehow gaining an advantage / still getting FastPasses when they're unavailable to most.

Not really though. The people who had been waiting in the standby line while you were elsewhere (waiting for the return time) were with you in the FP queue using their Any Attraction passes so also waited longer them normal. Using the DAS didn't extend your wait time - the ride breaking down did.

Depending on the ride. In Space Mountain, for instance, there's a separate vehicle dedicated for the fastpass+ side. So, if we'd been in the standby line from the get-go, the late comers to the Fastpass line wouldn't have jumped in front of the line to the non-fastpass+ vehicle. So, our wait time would've been pretty consistent there. But, since the return time couldn't factor in a large group of people (I'd estimate about 30 or so) coming to the lane at the same time, it made our overall wait time longer. Like I said, in the moment it was a bit of an annoyance, but there's not much Disney could do better about it. And, really it probably only meant an extra 5 minutes or so in line.

Isn't that the way it is when FP+ is in use though? You've always been put in the queue with FP+ guests and Recovery pass guests, etc. It's nothing new.

Yes. That is how it works. After a ride breakdown, things do back up for a while.
Guests also have the option to not enter the Fastpass line if it looks really long. We have done thst frequently in the past.
