DAS Questions regarding who is riding?

Hello all,

Thank you very much for all the helpful info on this board. We are a family of four, with DS(10) and DD(6). Our DS has autism. We used the DAS card system in June of 2014. I have a specific question regarding the DAS system, and how it may be slightly different now that it is linked to magicbands.

I understand that when you are requesting a return time, you also specify who is going to ride the ride.

Let us assume that all of us are planning to ride Space Mountain, so we request the DAS return time for all four in our party. In the meantime DD(6) decides she is not brave enough to ride it. If my son and wife go on the ride and scan their bands, will that automatically clear the reservations my daughter and I have on ours, so that we would then be able to request a new DAS time at another attraction?

I was mostly worried that if we were on the list to ride and didn't, that it might screw things up. Or, because my son would scan his, would it clear it out for everyone?

Hopes this makes sense, and thank you.

Either way, they could clear the unused Space DAS return when you request the next return time.

You can't use the DAS time unless the DAS holder rides, so if your DD decides not to ride before you get in line your DW and DS can't use that return time. Not sure what happens if she decides not to ride after she has gotten in line using the DAS return time.

I believe that it is the DS that has the DAS, not the OP's DD.

OP, SMD is correct, they can just clear any unused return time when you get the new one. I decided not to ride Star Tours (AGAIN!) in August and let DS and DH ride and simply asked for my unused return time to be overwritten when we got a new one for DS.

yes they can clear any unused person on a DAS card you can even get a DAS return time and decided not to ride a ride and then go to another one and say I would like to ride this instead ( I often will go to a land and get a return time for a ride then go do other things and if I find I need to do a ride I have the DAS to go to if I do not and I am done with that land then I move to the next and just ask for a new return time at a new ride,

Awesome! Thanks to everyone for the info. IN the card days, they just scratched it out! Nice to know it is still that easy to cancel something if need be.

And yes, it is my DS with the DAS. I realize that he has to ride to use the DAS time.

Thanks again for the information. I love this forum. :)

oh I have had one time the CM at the ride did not know how to cancel my return time they told me I had to go to GR if there is another CM around you can ask that person if not go to the nearest FP kiosk and look for a GR CM there and ask them to fix it for you but that is a slim chance that will happen I cancel then all the time. I also had a return time not show up agin use the kiosk if this happens

Just make sure you go to the ride you want to have cancelled. CMs are not allowed to cancel DAS reservations made at other rides.

Are you sure about this? I'm pretty sure that I've read of people here going to another ride and having their existing return time from another ride cancelled .

It's possible that a CM might have done it for you, but at my attraction we were not allowed to do it. I was told by my supervisors to send them back to that ride.

I didn't say they had done it for me, but I'm pretty sure I've seen people post here and elsewhere about being able to have DAS return times cancelled at other rides. If they don't allow that, they should. It's ridiculous to tell someone to walk all the way across the park to cancel something that they could cancel right there.

kind of separating this out a bit to make it more clear...
The poster's son has DAS
1) Let us assume that all of us are planning to ride Space Mountain, so we request the DAS return time for all four in our party.
2) In the meantime DD(6) decides she is not brave enough to ride it.
3) If my son and wife go on the ride and scan their bands, will that automatically clear the reservations my daughter and I have on ours,
4) so that we would then be able to request a new DAS time at another attraction?
1) Your DS's DAS is the 'master' that the Return Time for everyone is linked to.

2) If DS decided not to ride, the DAS Return Time would no longer be valid since the DAS holder needs to go on the attraction. The other members of your party don't really matter.

3) When your DS's Magicband is scanned, the Mickeyhead scans blue. That indicates to the CM to look at the screen, verify the DAS a holder is there. CM sees the other members of your group that were listed for access with DAS and authorizes them to enter. At that point, we are usually asked how many people.
You are not cancelling a DAS Return Time since your DS and wife are using it. When your wife and son check in, they would just say that it is just the 2 of them. The CM will not authorize any others since you and your daughter are not going.

4) Once the DAS Return Time has been used, there is nothing left for you and your DD to be linked to. You won't be able to make another DAS Return Time until your wife and son have finished riding. Once they have scanned their bands at the second Fastpass Plus scan point, you could get another (but you won't know when they passed that point, so may be better just waiting until they are done).

Thank you very much. That is very helpful.

Just to clarify, I thought I read that the CM will ask you how many are riding when you request the DAS return time? Do you tell them how many when you request it? or just when you go back to redeem it?

I don't expect this to happen often (if at all), but I was trying to figure out the best strategy to use when dealing with a potentially indecisive 6-year-old who might change her mind when we actually go to get on the ride!

If they ask how many when you request the return time, I was worried that if we said four and only two ended up riding that could be an issue.

When getting a return time they scan the MB (it can be the DAS holder's MB or anyone in his party that was attached by GR) and a list of names of those attached to the DAS will come up on their screen. The CM will ask you WHO is riding and then tap on those names. Those persons can even look at their MDE and see the DAS on it attached to their account. When you go back, the system will recognize those persons that the CM added to the account. So it is no longer a number but actual names.

yes
I was going to write the same.

Again, thank you very much for the information. I appreciate your patience with my questions.

So excited for our upcoming (81 days) trip!

Just an fyi, this past week we had a terrible time with DASs not falling off our bands and not being cancelled at midnight. CMs at rides could not cancel and everything had to be redone at GS several times.
