Hi All!

I'm planning a 3-night trip to WDW in September for a group of adults. One of the adults has rheumatoid arthritis, which impacts her ability to stand for long periods of time, but she doesn't require a scooter or wheelchair. I've found conflicting info about the DAS pass and I'm wondering what kind of info they need in order to get one for my friend? Is it just the judgment call of the CM working that day or do they have a set protocol for issuing them? She hasn't had other problems getting one at other theme parks, but the info surrounding Disney I've seen has me a bit concerned for her.

Disney would view this as being an issue that can be solved by using a scooter or a wheelchair. They won't be able to issue a DAS for her for that reason.

I guess I'm confused then as to the reasons they do give these passes out. Of course, I'm never gotten a DAS pass, so I have no idea.

Generally it is for people that have a hard time being in line. But if the issue can be addressed with a mobility device, they will tell you to use one.

As someone with Lupus and RA, I can say that chances are her issues can be addressed with a wheelchair or scooter. Whether or not she wants to use one, may be a different story.

In fact, the only issue I have heard that always gets a DAS is autism. People have actually been told by cast members that autism is the main reason for a DAS. Although this has been denied by members here.

Reasons that have been given and have not received as DAS include needing to be out of the sun and a sudden, urgent need to use the restroom.

On the disABILITIES board Sue M has put together an excellent sticky which addresses this exact question/situation of not being able to stand for long periods of time. It is in post 6 of this sticky:
https://www.disboards.com/threads/d...disabled-1st-trip-next-trip-wish-trip.595713/

As she also points out, many who don't use a wheelchair, ECV, rollater or other mobility device at home find that there is so much walking and standing in DW that they benefit greatly from using one while on their trip.
