When you go to get a return time near park close time, and the return time would be after close, can you still get a time? If so, how do they determine what it should be?

For example, if it's 8:30, the park closes at 9:00 but the posted wait time is 60 minutes. We could still get in the SB line if DS11 were able, but since we cannot and must use a return time, what will happen? Obviously they can't give us a 9:30 return time.

I don't want to cause a situation where we will have to walk away and tell him we can't ride at all. It's been a few years since we have been to WDW, so I forget how this is handled. Maybe we never even encountered it because back then he was not the night owl that he is today!

Thanks in advance for any help!

What haps when I do this is they 1 either tell me to just go ahead and enter the FP line then, or they give my a return time for when park closes, but I have only done this a few times I am more of a park open person so normally I am not there at park close. or if I am I just do not want to do any rides.

I have never done this but line will close at closing so getting a time past closing not happening. plus I have seen the FP line closed and only stand by line used for last 30 minutes or so. so I am guessing if FP line still open you will be sent there with no return time. if not you may have to walk away

for rides with rider swap FP stays open, They have given me a return time for 7DMT at park closing ( I think the wait was 45/60 minutes) and it was 20 minutes until park closes, but I did not come back for 30 minutes 10 minutes after park closed. I went in the FP line like normal ( even scared my band)

I have heard ( and I have no way to prove this since I am not wait in stand by) but at the end of the night the posted wait are longer then the real waits are so that some guest will not want to wait. again just what I have heard.

I have had FP near closing at was sent thru standby because FP line had been closed. the one I remember is Pirates. sign said 30 but was only 10

I was talking about getting a DAS and this was just 7DMT I do not think pirates has rider swap ( it might) but they may have had you go in the stand by since they know it was a short wait, and had the 30 minutes up just so guest would not come in

but if your FP time was still open then something must of happened for them to close the FP line.

They've closed the queues and not let standby guests in before park closing in the past. They had signs outside the 7DMT queue when we were there two years ago stating what time the queue would be closing, can't remember how early it was though. In this scenario, I would think you wouldn't be allowed a DAS time since the queue was closed to everyone. I would check with CMs that day and see if the attraction you have planned is on an early closing list.

Ok, with so many mixed responses it sounds like my best approach may be to avoid rides near park close completely. I can't risk walking away empty handed with DS11. I would rather temper expectations than risk a meltdown. Thanks everyone for your responses. It really helps :)

Or just plan your FP+ for that time.

If there is another adult then one could go while the other go somewhere else with your son

Those are both great suggestions. Thank you. I am still new to FP+ so I'm not sure how it will work for our touring abilities. I'm nervous, but hopeful. DS doesn't really remember our last trip and he actually did not even ride any rides that had a height requirement last trip, but he has changed a great deal since then so I'm doing everything I can to keep expectations reasonable.

Also, I was afraid DS would have to go get the return times now since magic bands. It's a relief to see I was wrong in that thought. I still have so much to learn...

I would have someone take his band and try for the return time so he does not know if it does not work out for you. get your FPs for rides that you want to ride take son does not if you have any rides that you want to ride and you know he wont ride. you do get FPs besides the return times. have a great trip
