My son has SPD and we are heading to Disney in August. We have used the DAS before so I know how to get one but I recently read in a discussion something contrary to our experience so I wanted to verify how things work since we haven't been in 3 years.

Last time we went - if the wait was under 15-20 minutes - we went through the FP line without waiting for a return time. I just read that if this was the case now we would be sent into the regular standby line. Is that correct?

unfortunately - a wait that long in the regular line would be too much for him (if we had to wait that long in a FP line we would forgo the ride or come back later). He's just not able to endure the sounds and vibrations and enclosed space for that long and we find the standby lines often have more stimulation in them than the FP as it wasn't designed to entertain as you wait

Does anyone know how it works if the waits are less than 15 minutes? Is it possible to ask to wait the 15 minutes and then use the FP line?

It's not been our experience that they've sent us down the standby line UNLESS the FP line wasn't even open for some reason. YMMV.

Thank you!! Do they still send you through right away if the wait is short?

I think officially it's still the "under 10 minute" rule where they send you on (Standby is under 10 minutes). That said, we had several instances where the CM just waived us through to the FP line if the standby line was a bit longer. Depends on the CM and pixie dust. I don't think we've ever been sent through the standby line with a DAS. Even at under 10 minutes, it was through the FP line.

The FP line can be 15 minutes or more though. And there really isn't a way of knowing until you are in it. I can think of a couple of the interactive standby lines (TSM for example) where the line "amusements" itself are the issues. We'd probably have to pass if they tried to push us through the regular line for that one, even if there was no wait at all!

I don't know if they're enforcing it or not, but the standard used to be if the wait time was 10 minutes or less, the guest was sent to the standby line.

Yes - TSM is a definite issue! That FP line is almost too hard for him! Last time we tried the wheelchair line and that was a mistake because we Waited almost 30 minutes - I thought avoiding the FP line would be good and him being enclosed in the stroller could eliminate the issues but being inside is definitley overstimulation and lines we sets plan a chance for him to decompress after!

He was just shy of 3 last time so long(er) FP lines were not an issue - I'll see how he does this time - might be utilizing the stroller for those!

If the stand by line is 15 or more minutes you can get a return time to come back yes I have done this and I have been give a return time to come back in 5 minutes, anything less you will be directed to the stand by line. You can either wait for the line to get longer ( I sometimes do this at Space muntian ) or talk to the CM and see if they can do something for you.

We just returned from a vacation at Disney and were surprised how long the fast pass lines were. Most of the lines at the popular attractions were at least 15 minutes. Flights of Passage in AK was more than 30 minutes. So even with a DAS, which we have, the wait times were fairly long.

Definitely use the stroller! If standby is a short wait but you know the queue is too stimulating, just talk to the cm. We've asked to use the FP line or get a return time on some rides when standby was essentially walk-on. I just explain that the skipping the queues that are interactive or very visual is more important than getting right on. He sits in his stroller with the canopy pulled down. On rides that have wheelchair access off to the side, we keep him in his chair as long as possible. I'd rather have a slightly longer wait in a hallway off to the side than be able to walk quickly through.

Just wondering. I read the sticky post that said you had to request the DAS at the parks. We will be at Dis Springs to p/u our APs the night before we check in to BLT. can we request it at Guest relations there???

It's only available at the parks, not Disney Springs.
