DAS/FP+

Hi everyone,

I am travelling with a group of friends (there will be 4 of us) to Disney in late October. One member of our travelling party has CP - she can walk, but is unstable, tires quickly, and gets claustrophobic in crowds. She is planning on getting the DAS but doesn't want to use it unless she has to. She also can't do all the "more intense" rides that the rest of us will want to do. My question is: if we are unable to get FP for rides she can't do with us (ie Rockin' Roller Coaster, etc.), can she use her DAS card with us, and then not ride, so that we don't need to be separated from her (she would sitting on a bench somewhere while we wait in the standby line)?

Again, this is only a concern if for some reason we can't get a FP for those rides and the standby line is long. This will be my first time travelling to Disney with someone who plans to get the DAS card. Thanks in advance!

No, you cannot. The DAS holder must ride the attraction that they get the return time for.

No, the DAS holder has to board the attraction with their party. That's why they photograph the DAS holder.

I would suggest considering using both a WC AND the DAS for her multiple needs. Have a great time!

Has your friend been to WDW in the past couple of years to use DAS? Depending on her needs, what you've described above may not qualify for the DAS. Disney will recommend use of a mobility device for mobility and stamina concerns. You might want to check out the WDW - Disability Access Service thread pinned near the top of this forum. The first post has all the details and you can skip the rest of the old discussion.

As others have indicated, the DAS holder must ride.

She has not been to Disney! So excited for her first visit! I really want to make this as stress-free as possible for her.

One other question: She cannot use moving sidewalks/escalators. I know that some rides like the Haunted Mansion have continuous moving vehicles/sidewalks throughout loading - would she need something the DAS card to get them slowed down or stopped, or could she just explain to the CM working at the ride that she needs it slowed down/stopped?

No, you would tell the CM at the ride for an accommodation like that.

The ONLY thing the DAS is for is issues with waiting in lines themselves.

There's so much walking in WDW that does not involve the queues. There could be 6-8 miles of walking a day. Can she walk that much? I second the suggestion of getting a wheelchair. She doesn't have to stay in it all the time, and she can push it herself and use it for balance.

the DAS card is for the person with a disability to be able to ride a ride not there friends if she can not ride you should not use her DAS card to ride. if you want to ride something that your friend dose not want to and you do not have a FP for it then you need to do the stand by line. there are plenty to see and do beside rides that your friend will be fine for the 30 to hour or what ever it take you

this is very true I think a wheel char or ECV would be just fine for your friend and it sounds like she has some mobility problem and stanima ( but you are free to talk to GR about your friends needs and see what they say)

aslo most moving walk ways can be stopped some can not the People mover is one that can not be stopped with out stopping the ride perter pan flight is another ( or the last I heard)

the biggest issue with Peoplemover is that there is a steep moving ramp to get up and down from the load/unload area.
Once you get up there, there is a moving walkway to get on and off the ride car. They can slow that, but it's not that helpful since the moving ramp is too difficult for many people.

Peter Pan can't be slowed or stopped. It may be possible to arrange to ride either the first or last ride of the day when no other guests are inside the attraction.
