I was wondering where do I exsactly go to apply for a DAS card at Disneyland and Disneyworld (going to both) also can someone tell me like if I get approved and I'm staying at the hotel at Disneyworld can I take that wheelchair with me or must it be returned at the end of the day? Little bit confused here.

Also I don't have a drivers licence so will my passport/ identification/ student ID work?

Thank you :)

Note: can't remember if I asked this ages ago.. I apologise in advance

I can speak for Disney world, here you go to Gust relation at the park ( I think it is the same for Disneyland to)

If you are renting a Disney wheel chair they may let you take them on the bus back to your hotel since they no longer have wheel chair at the hotel. If you think you need a wheel chair at the hotel I would look at getting one off site incase you are not allowed to take it with you,

I Think I had to show my ID the first time I got a DAS, but I was in melt down mood and really do not remember it at all. but I think any ID would be OK.

on another note if you have a wheel chair make sure you talk about the problem with being in line that a wheel chair will not help with, some CM see a wheel chair and they think this helps all problems.

Ah thank you so much.

I would try to walk to and from the part to the resort but I'm not sure how far it is or if I'd cope with the walk. I would try anyways and see what they say. But I'm going to assume Disneyland is the same maybe ? I'll see when the time arrives.. o.o having cerebral palsy sucks sometimes xD

I would ask the CM they let me one time, but that could change. also have you looked at off site the wheel chair at Disney are big heavy and not fun to self push if you need too, off site might be a lot better.

have a good friend with CP that can not walk at all can not even sit up on his own, and any disability suck at time, but you will have a great time

I always feel so thankful that I can even walk. I have a friend with cp and she's in like a motor wheelchair and can barley speak and do stuff on her own and I always wish I could.. help if that make sense.

But I'll definitely ask about while I'm there and see what they say. Would you reccomend I take a doctors certificate?

Edit: my Nan is joining me but I'll look around and see other sites with wheelchairs or even like scooters

no you will not need a Dr note most Cm will not look at a Dr note. In order to get a DAS you have to explain why you can not wait in a line and why waiting out side the line will help you. My friend with CP dose not need a DAS because he can wait in lines ( he just need a power wheel chair) and you do not need a DAS to use any mobility device at Disney.

They will not let you take the wheel chair back with you. I would rent one from off-site. It will be less expensive and will take care of any needs you have at the hotel. The walks to rooms at some of them is long.

The Disability Access Service (DAS) threads pinned near the top of this forum may have some answers for you. While the basics of the program are the same, there are some differences between the coasts, so we have 2 different threads; you only need to read the first post of each thread as the rest was (long) discussion when the program rolled out:
WDW -Disability Access Service (DAS) Post 1 updated 6/8/15 DIGITAL DAS on tickets/Magicbands
DL & DCA -Disability Access Service Card- Post 1 update 12/7/14 DAS tied to ticket

You request a DAS at Guest Relations at any of the 4 major theme parks at WDW -- Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom. Similarly, at the California parks you request DAS at City Hall in the Disneyland Park or the Chamber of Commerce at California Adventure.

I don't believe you will need identification for the DAS. What did you think requires identification?

Wheelchair rentals are available at the same spot as stroller rentals in each of the parks. I would not count on an in-park wheelchair rental being allowed outside the gates. There may be wheelchairs available to help get to transportation, but that can be hit or miss. If you really need a mobility device to get to/from the buses and your resort, I recommend bringing your own or renting from an offsite vendor - some are listed in the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Will your Nan be able to push you in a wheelchair? If not, do you feel you could comfortably and safely drive an ECV (assuming you are over age 18)? You might try one at a local grocery store or big box store. Maybe a rollator would be a good option as you could push it yourself but have a seat when you need to sit.

A doctor's note is not necessary for either DAS or a wheelchair/ECV rental. The CM would likely refuse to look at it. You will have to be able to explain your needs, or maybe your Nan can help with that if necessary.

Enjoy your vacation!

In Australia we have to present identication for that sort of thing, I just kinda assumed it would be the same?

But thank you all for your responses. I'll see how it goes and what we can do :)!

And I'll have a look at the links above as well :)

I have been able too take a Disney wheel chair back to my resort before, so yes it can be done, will the CM let you do this every time I do not know, but I do agree that renting of site is the best bet. And I do think if you need to take a Disney wheel chair to your hotel you should talk to a CM and explain your needs

I'm glad that worked for you. It's not something that should be counted on to occur again. The rules for the rentals, both wheelchairs and ECVs, are that they must remain in the park where rented. If you know you will need a mobility device outside the park, the best option is to rent from a third party vendor. If an unexpected situation arose within the park requiring assistance to get back to your resort, absolutely speak with a CM and see what they can do. But I would never advise someone that it is possible to take a park rental wheelchair back to their resort. Sharing your experience is fine, but it would be good to say "this happened once but is not the usual" or similar; it's best to think of what is most likely to occur, not an out-of-the-ordinary it worked once for me situation.

At Disneyland there is one wheelchair rental location for both parks outside the DL gates and you can parkhop with the same wheelchair. You can't take the park wheelchairs to DTD, though.

OP, if you are coming from Australia, are you flying in? How are you getting around the walking at the airport, outside the airport, etc? I'd think it would be really easy to bring a wheelchair with you? That way, you are not dependent on the airport staff to do the complimentary wheelchair shuffle, and you would know your wheelchair was comfortable, etc.

Of course, if you can do the walking at the airport, etc, and just need it for the parks, I'd still look into renting one offsite for the duration of your time in each state.

We don't have a wheel chair, we are using airports wheelchair.

I'm not fussed if I can't get one at Disney. I'll take shorter breaks and just use a fast pass if I must and sir and wait. There's always an alternative that being maybe hiring off someone else or what not. We will see :)

DL is MUCH smaller than WDW and the 2 parks are adjacent, which is why that is allowed.

that is NOT going to be an option at WDW.( and the WC outside the parks to get to bus stops and what not are universally busted or nonexistent)

Janai, WHY can you not wait in lines? that is the only valid reason to get a DAS. all mobility and stamina related issues will be told to get a Wheelchair or ECV.

Offsite rentals are almost always less expensive over the length of the trip, it is reserved exclusively for your use( no chance of the parks running out) and tend to be lighter and more easily maneuvered than the park rentals. don't forget you do not have to use it all the time, you can push it in front of you or use out to hold your bags of souvenirs and even leave it outside the line if you want

you will have no problem getting a wheel chair at Disney unless you are going new years eve, Day Christmas Day. So do not worry about not getting a wheel chair.

OP is going to both. I was answering her question about DL. I know WDW is different. As far as I'm aware, at neither resort can she take a park WC back to her hotel.

. You seem to visit a fair number of times. I would consider being allowed to take a park rental wheelchair back to one's resort to be an anomaly. So rare and unusual that it probably wouldn't be an option for 99.9% of visitors 99.9% of the time.

Unless you only used a wheel chair one time then it 100% of the time

In the US, people can't be for ed to prove they are disabled to get assistance.
You may need to provide ID just to show who you are. But, you don't need to show a doctor's note or any other proof of disability.

agree completely

At DL, the 2 parks are very close together and guests can easily walk between them. A wheelchair can be taken between the 2 parks, but not outside of the park area.
At WDW, the parks are far apart - guests need to take a bus or other transportation between parks. The only exception is that guests can walk between Epcot and Hollywood Studio; it is not a short walk though. Wheelchairs are not allowed outside of the park where the wheelchair was rented; this is the usual. Being allowed to take a wheelchair outside of the park it was rented in would be a very rare exception.
