DAS and SWGE openings

Wondering what DAS process is like for new attractions that don't have FP? Our timing isn't great as we arrive the day after the opening of Rise of the Resistance so I'm assuming it will be super crazy busy the whole time we're there. My nephew has a DAS. He will definitely want to see the SWGE area and may want to ride (depending on the thrill/noise level when we get more info). Without FP I'm assuming there will be a very long stand by wait for both new SW attractions. Will it work the same as at the other FP attractions where we are given a return time? How would we enter if there's no FP line? For Smuggler's Run how has it been handled this first week? Do you miss the whole pre-show/queue?

Yes, DAS works the same way for SWGE rides. Both rides have a FP queue even though they are not using FP yet. DAS holders scan in at the FP return queue and use that queue to get to the ride.

If the line is super long, you will have a super long wait as well, so make sure you plan other FP to fill the time. Go and get the return time as soon as you can. If they are using boarding groups, you will have to wait until you get into the land to get the return time, but once you have it, it will get you back into the land without needing another boarding pass.

On Smugglers Run, you enter at the merge point just before the preshow, so you won't miss it.

My understanding is that DS has the Guest Experience Teams located at various locations around the park and you can go there to get a return time instead of having to go to the ride itself. Has that changed? We are going next week and it will be our first visit in 2 years so it would be our first time since they started this procedure.

Yes, that's true in general, but for Star Wars land, they have a kiosk set up inside the land and that is the only place you can get a return time for the ride in the land. At least, that is the procedure in Disneyland. It is frustrating to have to go all the way there to get the return time when every other kiosk in both parks can issue a return time for every other ride, but that is how they have decided to do it.

Thanks everyone! This is very helpful. I'll check back after opening day for RoR (is that what we're calling it on the DIS?) to see if anything we need to know about that. Our current plan would put us at HS on the 10th so mid week a few days after the opening. We used to rope drop but now that the kids are older they like to stay at the parks later and it's impossible to get them up early so we will likely be in for a long wait for a return time.

I inquired about how DAS is working in GE while I was there for the opening (my son who uses the DAS wasn't with me, so I didn't actually use it) and was told that you must either be in GE, OR if using the VQ, you can be outside GE and use one of the remote blue umbrella stations, but your Boarding Group must be within its return time to get a DAS return time. Once within your DAS return time, you'll be directed into the FP queue.

That's correct. We were just there on Saturday 8/31 with my son who has DAS. For MFSR, you had to set up your return time with Cast Members that were located on the ramp to the left of the ride. At the return time, we just went to the FP lane and walked through as normal. It was a bit of a bummer not getting to see the stuff that's in the regular queue, but worth it when it meant DS could be in a good place to ride and not spin out. There was no VQ while we were there, so I can't comment on how it would work with boarding times.

If the land is closed due to capacity then you will need to join a boarding group before you can get your DAS and then when your group can go in is when you can get the return time

Am I understanding correctly from your other post that you got a return time at the entrance to HS, not in SWGE? There seems to be 2 different answers floating around. Thanks!

Yes the land was open when the land is open you can get a return time any where in the park when the land is closed you can get s return time in the land or any where in the park as long as your boarding group has access to the land

I am a little confused about "boarding group". Can someone explain what that is? and how to you get into one?

"Entering Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

There may be times when Guests may be required to join a virtual queue to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

The virtual queue is not a physical line, so you can enjoy the rest of Walt Disney World Resort until it is your turn to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

After entering Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can request to join the virtual queue and will be assigned a boarding group, either with the My Disney Experience app or by visiting a Guest Experience Team kiosk.

Once your boarding group is called, you have 2 hours to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the entrance located on Grand Avenue near Muppet*Vision 3D. There is no time limit to enjoy Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge after you have entered the land, other than the operating hours of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

You can check the app and in-park signs to see which boarding group is currently being admitted to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Visit any Guest Experience Team kiosk at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for questions or assistance.

Admission into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is subject to capacity. Being assigned to a boarding group does not guarantee entrance to the land, its attractions or its experiences."

thanks so much for the responses and for the link! I had no idea! We will be there the beginning of October, so I guess its a possibility it could close due to capacity since it's still fairly new. Does anybody know if this is something that has happened very often since it opened?

gap, I know you are there now. have you had instances where the virtual queue has come into play?

Yes only the first day and did it by accident so really did not need it ( was in the land already)

That's a very nice perk at Disneyland.

I agree! I hope they open it up to be able to get SW land return times outside the land on days when the VQ isnt being used. Which is every day, but I know it may become necessary again in January when ROTR opens.
