Hi - thanks to all the wonderful DISigners here. I have been busy preparing our T-shirts for our upcoming trip to Disneyland, customizing many of the blanks that I have found. My light transfers have come out great so far. But my dark transfers are sort of hit or miss. Some of them have come out great. But one in particular is giving me problems. It's a design with a large white background being placed on a dark blue shirt. When the transfer is ironed on, the transfer attaches correctly but the white background becomes a dark grey / blue color and it becomes very hard to make out details. From reading other threads, it appears that some people think that this is because the iron is too hot or it was ironed for too long? This is HP dark transfer paper and we're actually ironing for less time than recommended (since otherwise the parchment paper starts to discolor and ironing longer doesn't seem to make any difference) - the transfer is about 1/2 page big and we're doing the light pressure for about 45 seconds and the hard pressure for about 45 seconds. I'm wondering if we need to turn down our iron temperature (it's a Rowenta so it's a powerhouse of an iron) or just iron for even less? Any help or thoughts (or confirmation of my theory) would be appreciated before I waste any more shirts or transfers! ;)

I am not a lover of HP transfer paper for just this reason. I have used them and had the same results. It really didn't matter what color the shirt was - if it was a dark color, it would bleed through. I had this happen with red, blue and green.

Nothing will really solve the problem but the way I got around it was to turn the iron down a couple settings and then lessen the time to about a third of what the directions said. Then even so, I just watched as closely as I could and stopped ironing when it looked like it was bleeding through.

I am just not a lover of the HP paper for this very reason.

Thanks Amy! Your posts have been very helpful so far with all of the hints/knowledge that you've passed on! I'll try turning it down a little more but if that doesn't work, I may be PMing you ... ;) Too bad about the HP dark transfer paper ... I had purchased it in preference to the Avery since it seemed more people were happier with the HP vs the Avery but hadn't heard about the bleeding issue being a problem with the HP until now.
