Dark Resorts?

I'm going to WDW with my MIL, who has severe vision problems. Dark rooms cause real problems for her so we'll need to stay at a resort that doesn't have dark furnishings and has plenty of light in the rooms. From researching the boards it looks as though the following are "dark resorts"

Poly
WL
AKL

Any others?

Agreed. Not sure about others.

The lightest and brightest, at least in my opinion, is the Grand Floridian, if that helps.

I would probably put the cabins at FW in that category too, even though we loved them!

I think the Beach Club is bright and airy as well!

Boardwalk is pretty light! We just stayed there this past weekend and everything was light colors, etc. It was wonderful!

Thought that the BC rooms were well lit.

I agree that the Poly's rooms are pretty dim.

I also thought that the ASMo rooms were could have used another lamp. When the curtains were closed, our room there was kind of shaddow-y even with all the lights on.

Another vote for the brightness of the BW. They have done a renovation of the Inn and the villas are in progress now.

Many hotels have lights with thick shades on them. Here, if you remove the shade you will get much more light.

Some years ago I suggested bringing along your own higher wattage light bulb(s). Except I came to realize that these can break during transit. Also you would have to remember to take them out and hide them and put back the regular light bulbs and lamp shades before leaving the room each morning.

Do not put a higher wattage bulb in a fixture that has a glass cover and also put the cover back on. This can create a fire hazard.

If you check out the UG they give a rating for the levels of light in each resort.

Another vote for Beach Club! It was very light and airy feeling - even the colors in the lobby are pastels and lights. My mom also has to have lots of light, and I felt the BC was perfect. :)

AKL was the darkest - thought the Poly offset it well with a lot of window space - but GF was the brightest in my experience. BWI seems very bright as another poster mentioned - never stayed there, but looks great and quite light.

I agree the BC is a nice choice. I love the YC, and the rooms are very bright, but the lobby is a bit dark.

WL was a bit dark.

I like POR and POFQ, but I do think the rooms are kind of dark, as far as the amount of sunlight that gets in.

Thank you for all of the feedback and the suggestion to check-out UG. I didn't have BC on my short list and now I do. :thumbsup2

We stayed for the first time at OKW in January - very light and bright and tropical. It's a hidden gem (IMHO) and the rooms are HUGE!

Good Luck planning :wizard:

You need to get a corner room with 2 sets of windows and keep shades open. Also turn each and every light on. I agree that disney rooms are pretty dim and it is esp. true with external corridors, less natural light gets in.
