Dapper Day check-in thread

We aren't dressing up but are arriving in Saturday, I'm glad to see some people will still be dressing up on Saturday as I'd love to see all the great outfits.

We usually go all out, but I think our group will be scaling it back a bit this time. We weren't even planning to go--had thought about trying out Tiki Day--because the weather has been so hot at the Sept. Dapper Days. However, since they moved the date farther into the month and since Charles Phoenix is coming back (I missed him last time because I had to stay home and have surgery instead :crutches:), we changed our minds!

As of right now, I have an outfit for Friday that is not any particular "look," but is somewhat reminiscent of the 1920s. Saturday, I have a dapper sundress that is also a bit '20s and Sunday, I'm dressing Hawaiian. This all may change at any time LOL. It was a lot of fun to wear gloves, fancy hat, etc but this time I'm going to be more casual.

Your daughter's dress is amazing, Nicolispicoli!!! I'll be on the lookout for it! I'd love to see pics of what others are wearing so we can recognize you when we see you at the park! I'll see if I can post a pic of my sailor dress that I'll be wearing on Friday.

Thank you! I can't sew for anything, but I found this amazing woman on Etsy that will let me send her the fabrics I find and make the dresses for under $40, not a bad deal. The Peter Pan fabric was vintage sheets from the 70's, I alllllmost felt bad cutting them up...almost, lol. We got so many compliments last dapper day on her vintage rainbow mickey dress that we cut from sheets when I was little.

Here's a picture of my dress, it's a Lindy Bop dress and I am in loooove with it...I also bought this vintage fascinator from ebay. I'm going to try out wedges this time since I always feel so stumpy wearing my keds with my dresses.

Will you be dressed up in your dapper attire, Kewton64? Come on, show us your outfit! :)

So cute! I'm wearing a Lindy Bop dress too! Though I don't know how to post a picture on here. :(
It's Black and white with Black polka dots and a black bow on the bodice.
With the cutest shoes to match that have polka dots on them
I bought a nice vintage style fascinator hat on amazon.
I'm bouncing with excitment. Can't wait to get to Anaheim.

We are going. My teenage daughter is dressing up and my mom is too. Maybe the bug skipped a generation because I don't have an interest to dress up. It's nice though to see something have such widespread appeal that transcends age groups.

My daughters and I are dressing up and going. We're really excited!! But, Friday is the last day of our trip.

Ex of many = (I had to pack another outfit for my Catalina Island Day since I will be ziplining & just have no room for a Dapper Day outfit = :upsidedow
but hopefully through others I can still enjoy the magic):)

So........

We are going to do a classic 1920's look but I can't decide whether to wear a hat or attempt finger waves. I am no good at doing my own hair, but it has been one of the hottest few months on record. I don't know if I could wear a hat in this heat. I'm wearing the same Nataya dress I wore last year. Very Downton Abbey.

You may want to consider a parasol instead of a hat. Very appropriate.

I love 20's looks! I can't do finger waves, my mom usually does them for me, but when I need that kind of look, I have a deep waver that works fantastic and achieves that downton look. Here's the link if you're interested:

I did finger waves a year ago. I watched tons of YouTube videos and practiced a few times. Wasn't as hard as I imagined. You need lots and lots of clips though. And good styling product. Go for it!

Can you tell me what it looks like? I'm doing a 1920s style too, and I'm completely in the dark about how to do my hair. I have a few ideas and had considered finger waves but my hair is too long. I thought I might just curl it up in little ringlets, which is '30s but hey, who really cares, right? I also tried turning it under and tying a scarf around it. Eh...I have no idea. My dress isn't truly '20s anyway so I'll probably go with something 'eclectic' LOL.

I just wave it and then pin the bottom under, so it looks like Edith on Downton. It's $22 on Amazon, but I've also seen them at Target. If you do get one, just don't close it too tight and you'll get looser, more delicate waves. But if you have thick hair, that might not make a difference. I have thin hair...

Thank you! I tried clipping it under to see how it would look. I'm just not sure how to do it so it stays put!
