DANG! Dad's a cheapscate! QUICK SERVICE ONLY? (Arguments FOR QSDP)

I most sincerely apologize. I was making assumptions based on things I had read but had not read the Disney restrictions.

I agree that one should follow posted rules totally however I do think it wrong of Disney to so severely limit what the children can eat.

Slightly Goofy who should not talk about things she does not know but would be ever so silent should she do so. :goodvibes

I agree that the food offerings for children are rather dismal at most CS restaurants. Supposedly more "healthy" but boring and tasteless. Healthy food doesn't have to be that way and Disney should get a clue! I'm really thankful that on our upcoming trip DGD will be 10 and able to order from the grownups menu. :) She's a light eater so DH will more than likely end up being the "clean up crew" but he won't mind that a bit, I'm sure.

Disney is quite proficient at catching "loop holes". I'm sure after 200 billion CS credits they would have fixed anything they seen as a problem.
If its allowable on the system after 2 years I think its safe to say it's allowable.

I'm not going to argue about this, it's clearly stated on the QSDP and other dining plans that if a childs' menu is available then a child between the ages of 3 and 9 must order from the childs' menu.

Some people will do the right thing and others will find a loophole and take full advantage of it. Personally, I'd rather do the right thing than save a couple of bucks and smirk about it. I've shared my meals with a kid and paid OOP for extras if chicken nuggets were becoming tiresome.

There is no need for arguing at all IMHO. :goodvibes

Disney does state that children's CS credits can only be used for children's meals if such meals are available. FACT

Disney also states that you cannot take coolers or outside food into the parks as well as other items. FACT

Disney however does allow such things to happen, have seen it for myself even. FACT

Every single day of our lives we are faced with a multitude of choices as to what is right and what is wrong and we should be busy enough keeping ourselves on track that we do not have an over abundance of time to be concerned unduly about what others choose or do not choose to do.

I am a firm believer in few commonsense rules/laws and strict enforcement of such. Where the confusion comes in is when there are so darned many rules/laws and sometimes not too much commonsense.

Attacking each other for what we might or might not do in any certain circumstance does not get anyone anywhere. We must each examine our own hearts and do what we truly feel is right.

Can't we just get along without having to agree?

I believe that you are a very nice person. :)

It just rankles me when I hear someone encouraging others to break the not so hard to follow rules, it ends up hurting all of us in the long run, and it's also a violation of the DIS policy. However, an honest mistake is entirely different.

Am I the only one that wants to scream with all the righteousness some have on these threads? Whatever happened to worrying only about ourselves. Disney is very good about stating the rules. Just like Disney occasionally makes mistakes when they imcorrectly charge us for a service, so do some patrons make mistakes. Disney is probably the best run Company in this country, if not the world. I am sure they can take care of themselves. So lets stop the judgement and guilt trips...

We recently used the QSDP and loved it! I would have to agree with the poster who stated that Disney could improve the kids meals. It seems that they think giving a choice of applesauce, raw carrot sticks and grapes for sides makes it a healthy meal. I can't imagine if that was the choice for us at home for almost 2 weeks as it was at Disney, or if that is all I could choose from as an adult while at Disney. I couldn't understand why they didn't offer kids choices at all CS's like Wolfgang Puck Express and cs fish and chip place in England. Why not offer something like a small grilled chicken sandwich at the CS's with a toppings bar where the child could put his own toppings on with a parents help? I was happy to have printed out the list that someone posted of the childs meals at all the CS's. We were able to get at least a little variety on the protein choice, but I thought the best selections were at POR where we stayed. At least my DS could order carved meat instead of burgers, chicken nuggets, pizza, hotdog and Smucker's Uncrustables.

Oh, I forgot to mention that kids packaged chocolate chip cookie as the typical sweet dessert choice. In my opinion that is incredibly stingy. I would love to see some choice in desserts, as they could do this without much expense and effort. All was not bad though, as DS was happy to have the 2 snack choices and to choose with no input from us! We also were so full from most meals that we would let him pick our dessert for us and share.

Anyway, loved the flexibility of the plan, the variety of meals and yummy desserts from which to choose (researched the menus before our trip and used many tips from here), and all the snack options, as well as, no tips. We used our mugs at the resort and brought our meal beverage choice to the parks. We did do 3 oop meals. I've had some major snack withdrawal and it's been a little over 2 weeks since we've returned, but only 3 days since the last fudge left the refrig!

We also love the QSDP and are going again in Aug with it (free, of course) we just pay the little extra to upgrade our now 9 yr old son to an adult plan. It doesn't cost much, but is so worth it!

summerlady, thank you and I think you are nice as well. I also think that SEDF is a good person. With very few exceptions everyone on the DIS is. It is the nature of folks who love Disney to be nice. :)

I truly believe that the 'fault' lies with Disneys practices. If they mean that childrens CS should ONLY be from the kid's menu then they would not allow the cashiers to override the system, if in fact they even have to do that. Do you know if childrens credits and adult credits are listed differently on the room key? If so and then they let folks use all the credits the same as adult that is what happens. Some see the rule and adhere to it and others either, through ignorance of the facts, or seeing others do so take advantage of the loophole or forbearance of Disney.

This is a wonderful place for people to discuss their feelings as well as experiences so that others can learn from, either how to do or NOT to do things. :thumbsup2

The problem with such freedom is that we sometimes meet up with ideas that we do not agree with and occasionally people that we might disagree with.

The good thing is that you can avoid anything or anyone that you do not want to deal with here while we are stuck with family and neighbors but then they are stuck with us too.:rotfl:

Have a great evening all, have more work to do before I sleep, SG

I get a kick out of those who judge those for being "judgmental". :) Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and there is right and wrong. I know, I'm very judgmental! :thumbsup2 I believe we can discuss, even here, our differences. And I don't think anyone was being particularly offensive. Can't we all just get along? :hippie:

DanielJoseph, what happens is folks post ,and I have been guilty of this myself, and since we cannot see each others facial expressions some of the things we type come off as differently than we mean.

There ARE a few folks who love to stir the pot but mostly it is just a 'failure to communicate'. ;)

I believe I said, "Can't we all get along". Of course Rodney King and those who were before him might dispute that.:lmao:

Hey, back to planning my trip. Gotta have some fun in between work.

We booked bounce back at pop last year for 10 days for the free dining (regular dining plan). When the QSDP was offered I jumped all over that. I think the cm thought I was nuts for changing to the QSDP. :scared1:

Sorry but ADR"S are not our thing. We have one adr for 10 days paying op for Garden grill my choice. Dh choice is Rainforest and DD choice is T-rex. My other dd is 2 and don't care enough yet. After the upragde, tips and mugs we are still saving money paying op for these meals. My girls are young and still love all the characters so we will wait in line to see some of them. But last year we didn't wait long for any character.

KELLY, that is a wise idea to allow each person to choose one TS that they want. It is sort of what we often do. Honestly we seldom do though because we are too darned full and cannot eat all the QS food but it is nice to know that we have the option should we wish.

Hopefully one day Disney will adopt a points system sort of like what they do with the DVC in that you can use your points, and you can buy as many or as few as you wish, for either TS, CS or snacks. I think that would satisfy most everybody. I think. :)

Garden Grill would be my pick as well. The food is good but so is the ambiance and generally the service. Nice place to rest midday at least it used to be. sigh

I believe the "salt trick" OP is referring to is for those of us who can't bring ourselves not to finish our food despite being full. A little salt sprinkled on top of what's left is a deterant.

Sorry, haven't been replying. Yes, the salt trick is to HEAVILY SALT your food once you start to "feel full". Otherwise SOME of us will just keep eating it because "it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO goooooooood!" or because "this cost me 20 freakin bucks!!!" LOL
As for the judgements, those type of things ruin threads. I cringe anytime someone here uses the "dishonest" word because it never ends well.
I see it like this... I don't care WHO you are, there will be SOMETHING that YOU do that I think is wrong. There will be SOMETHING that you do that I feel is dishonest. And you wont have to watch me long to come to the same conclusion about me. I never claimed to be perfect. There are things I feel are OK that others dont, and vise versa. I have seen people here bash people who bring their refillable mugs from a previous trip, and they are admitting to stealing the soap and toilet paper in the very next thread. If you find a perfect person you better watch them closely because they are hiding something.
There was a quote by Jack Sparrow I was trying to remember... Cant at the second.

The POINT of the thread (which has gotten lost in the arguing) is that there are positively advantages in the QSDP that many will inevitably overlook. Kinda like when your car shopping. That brand new hybrid looks really nice. That 90s model well maintained sedan doesn't seem as appealing. Yet its nice to have the extra money on hand that you WOULD have spent on a car payment. Its nice to be able to only carry liability. KWIM?

A lot of people see the QSDP as a "poor man's" dining plan. In fact, its a wise decision. Especially when you factor in the issue of those "other expenses" that I still refuse to mention by word.

Oh, so that is what I have been doing wrong. I thought you were supposed to cover the unwanted food with chocolate.:rotfl2:

For what it is worth IMO, whatever anyone feels they want to afford is fine by me. I have DIS friends who stay at nothing but the Deluxes and others who stay off site etc. The one common thing they have is that they are all nice folk and that is all that matters. It does not make you 'better' or 'worse' for how much you can afford or want to afford.

Back to my planning for MY trip and hope to see most of you all there!

We figure we will have some CS meals left over. Not a big deal. We just have done the regular dining plan 4 times and I'm just done with adr's. I want to get out of bed and just go where ever for the day. I also know the QSDP is not for everyone just like the value resorts aren't for everyone.

KELLY, I hear you too. My life is so structured and busy that I adore being able to wake up when I darn feel like it and then do what I want, when I want, no rush, no muss.

I live in a huge house, that I take care of all by myself, and absolutely love being in a small hotel room with few possessions, all tucked neatly away. Coming back to a room that has been cleaned by someone else and eating when I feel like it instead of when the clock says is a real plus in helping me in my struggle with my weight.

I can see the value in some folks staying in the more themed and upscale places if it is a change from their regular lives. That is the meaning of vacation, to do something different. It is just not for me.

As far as having meals left over, if you are driving you could buy some packaged meals and take them to eat on the way. Last year I was able to turn extra meals into snacks, not a good value but better than nothing, and brought back tons of fudge to use during the holidays.

You might also opt to waste a few on shared breakfasts or just share a CS at an interesting place and then eat at another place a couple of hours later to try out a variety of foods. You do not need to finish all of the food if you are not so inclined. Just some thoughts.

Have a blast! Slightly Goofy

SlightlyGoofy, you and I are on the same page. I cash them in on the last day as well. I usually bring home LOTS of the "Grandma's Cookies" from POP, particularly the white chocolate raspberry.
They are HEAVEN in a BAG!
We discovered them by mistake. It was the last of our POP "last day treats" and it was over a month later and we fought over the little bits of cookie left in the bottom of the bag!

We also split up meals. Half a meal here and half a meal there. It works GREAT!
And I also agree about the resorts. I love the POP, and am really looking forward to my first ever Disney "not a value resort" trip. 19 stays and counting, and 18 were at value resorts, one offsite. This will be my first at Beach Club. Beach & Yacht is absolutely amazing. The Grand Floridian (where we buy our soaps!) on the other hand, does absolutely NOTHING for me. So everyone is indeed different.
