Could be wrong.... but you might want to get yours now if it's on the Christmas list, just in case.

My daughter and I snuck a DSMickey into our cart tonight while DD(2) wasn't looking. Since we were trying to hide it, we didn't test it. Of course, I get it home and it doesn't work.

I call the store and they are, of course, sold out.... there are none in the area. The store manager checked to see when the next shipment would come in.... says they are not getting any more in because it is being discontinued.

He finally found one and is having it shipped for me. He may be wrong about it being discontinued, but I thought that I would pass along the info just in case.

Don't mean to cause a frenzy if the info is wrong... :headache:

I can't imagine that they would be discontinued already - they are obviously very popular. We are in the Atlanta area, and they are sold out everywhere around us. I finally had a friend find one in Alabama - it is a Christmas gift for my niece.

we cant order anymore at our store (walmart) but it doesnt mean its discontinued, but you probably will have a hard time finding these until afer christmas. we had 10 yesterday, and they were sold out pretty much as soon as we put em out.

I doubt they are discontinued, but I bet that demand was much higher then expected and that they are OUT of them. As in, no more in the warehouses. Thus, until the supplier has any, they can't ship them to the stores. Then it becomes a question of when YOUR store will get them since I am sure they have a ton of backorders.

So the store manager may have been told wrong or simply used the incorrect term. However, I am sure that it may be awhile before many stores see this toy again.

Just a suggestion, did you try new batteries? We got one for our granddaughter about a week later I suggested to my hubby to check and make sure it worked. Sure enough it didn't. He put new batteries in it and it was fine. Just a thought.

I didn't. They are packaged so "well" that I would have had to destroy the box to replace the batteries. I didn't want to take a chance on them giving me a hard time about returning it since they were willing to get me one shipped from a different store.

I'm betting that this is the case too.

There are whole shelves of them around here?! Target in San Dimas and LaVerne, CA and Walmart in Glendora have all had them in the last week that I ahve seen and it didn't look like anyine was interested in buying them..

To the OP - there is a switch on the bottom of one of Mickey's feet - hopefully that's the only problem - he does take 6 AA batteries and mine had duracell batteries in it which surprised me! My grands love it - I brought it so I could laugh when they did their dances!!!

Sometimes if a product is no longer orderable for a buyer or buying department, like TRU is only carrying something for the holidays and by now all holiday orders are in to the vendors, then the replenishment system may have a code like a "d"or "x", because it is showing the buyer it is no longer an option to order for that company. This happens a lot during the holidays in order for them to not to get stuck with them coming in after the holidays. I was a BRU Store Manager and this happened to us a lot because the limited toy collection we carried, we would see the code but over at TRU they wouldn't because of their product mix and shelf capacity. I would guess it is just a indivdual store or chain thing.

They didn't seem to be selling near me either! :confused3
I'll bet there was a limited run of them, and that if successful, production will continue after the holiday.

ETA: Anyone searching for the Mickey - also try your grocery store (if it sells some children's items). I know we got that dancing/interactive Elmo two Christmases ago at a Shop Rite in NJ.

Our target stores had a sign up stating that due to manufacturing problems they are limiting to 1 per person. The employee said they are not getting many in at all. I doubt they are discontinued already though. Seems like another Tickle me elmo.

My sister works for ToysRUs as a telephone customer service rep - the ones who answer the phone when you call the 800 number. She says that if a toy is listed on their "hot list" they are not allowed to say it is available even if there are hundreds! She also says that if her system shows 5 or less in stock they must tell the caller that the item is not available :confused3

Many moons ago I used to work the service desk at a TRU and I can tell you that 99% of my time was spent answering phone calls that were "Do you have (fill in the blank) in stock? Well, when is your truck coming in?" etc. Very annoying and time-consuming.

Just an FYI, if it is anything like the Elmo TMX a few years ago buy lots of extra batteries or use rechargables! Elmo was a battery hog!

uugh - I didn't even think to test the one I bought. Is it easy to pull out without mangling the box?

I thought they were all sold out, then there was one at my Walmart and the next day I found them at TRU online, so really they don't seem that hard to find. I got one for my grand-daughter..at that price I hope there isn't a glitch or something.

Saw them yesterday at BJ's and Sam's Club! Lots of them at both places as well as Target. Guess they aren't a very hot item here yet.

Ditto. Our Target has the same sign. Sold out everywhere here. It's too bad. I think my DS would have really liked it for Christmas. :(

This is what happened. We don't expect to get anymore in our store for the Christmas season.
