Alright you adult people...

Can you play this game? I finally got up the nerve to try the arcade version (but only when I found a fairly empty arcade) and, although it was difficult I thought it was fun and I would be capable of learning it a little better. So, we just bought the home version. Yikes! I spent a 1/2 hour making sure that all options were set to "easy" or "slow" or "beginner" etc. And still I am hopeless! A few VERY slow games I could handle. But otherwise it just looked like a bunch of arrows flying around the screen!

Granted, I am no dancing queen. But oh my! And I'm not all that out of shape - I go to the gym 4-5 times per week. But this rivals any of my workouts. I'm sweating like crazy!

Can ANY of you adults do this? Is there hope? I would LOVE to know!

Ok, I'm hitting the shower now. Will check back later.

I *HATE* excercising. But, I had always thought the "home version" of this would be a great, fun aerobic workout.

Anyone agree? Is it worth it to "excercise" with one of these, or do you not get a real work out with it?

We have it for PS2 and it is soo much fun. I can only handle the beginner versions, though. :lmao:
I use the workout mode, and you really do sweat and get a workout!

There is a actually a "workout" mode on it where you enter your weight and it estimates calories burned. I haven't used it too much, as I said, but the potential is there.

Everybody has a different opinion on what constitutes a "real" workout. I don't even ask that - the answers can be discouraging. Although I'm sure distance running would burn more calories, I'm personally happy (and I see results) if I work up a sweat for 45+ minutes. This game will do that for sure.

I would LOVE to find one that had all 70s and 80s music on it. Then I would use it.

I had it on my XBox, but we have the 360 set up now. :(
They're coming out with DDR Universe for the 360 4th quarter of this year. I can't wait.

I actually got the nerve to do it in an arcade last week. I didn't do too bad. Of course I had it on beginner though :)

Keep practicing and it will quickly become a 'real' workout.

I love DDR. I'm also not the most coordinated, but you quickly get used to the flight of arrows. Did you run through the tutorial mode? It's a real help. Once you start getting fast enough that you have to 'hop' from square to square (instead of stepping) and incorporating a lot of two foot moves, it's a really, really good workout!

I have to agree, it's a real workout. My DS and his best friend set up two DDR pads in my basement so they could get together after school and do DDR. Michael, the friend, was on the pudgy side at the beginning, but he really stuck with it. After doing DDR for a year he had lost 20lbs--no diet, just DDR. And he was up to the expert level. They used to do DDR for literally hours. do you wanna know what a basement smells like after 5hrs of teenage boys doing DDR :chewy: :chewy: :dancer:

:faint: i thought not.

On a side note, it really blew my mind the first time I saw big, teenage boys doing DDR - in public. I never expected that would be considered "cool" but it really REALLY is.

I LOVE IT!!!!WE HAVE IT HERE. It is so addicting once you start. I go in spurts. I will do it for several weeks, and then stop and do another form of exercise for several weeks. When I go back to DDR, I dont want to stop. I would never do it in front of another adult except my husband though LOL.. Im sure Im NO pretty site while doing it. It is so fun and it makes you sweat like crazy. :thumbsup2

You do get the hang of it, just keep practising. My kids HS had a DDR contest. The winner and the runner up were both boys.

I have it, but the music isn't my cup of tea. However, I have seen that apparently sometime this year (???) they're coming out with one that will allow you to store MP3s or something of your own CDs and it will analyze the beat of the music somehow and create a dance! *That* one is one I need. :D

:goodvibes We used to have dorm rivalries in high school with it. Some of the guys who were wallflowers at the school dances were the toughest competition on DDR nights! There is hope!

My ds has ddr at his dads house. I was talking about my workouts and losing weight. The first thing he said was should get a ddr at my house. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I bought one, he loves it. His band director challenged the kids to a ddr contest, he didn't think any of the kids could beat him. He had to admit my ds kicked his butt. They had a great time.

I work at a theatre and we have it in the game room. I'm not even close to being all that great, but it is so much fun! In the arcade the song "Captain Jack" will REALLY get you moving -- wow! I am starting to really love it and slowly getting better!

Some of the kids at are insane! There is this one tiny Asian girl that comes in to see movies occasionally and it's just unbelievable watching her!

I have it at home and I love it. You should see my 6 year old! I am pretty good at it, myself. We get it out almost every time we have company! I love to watch my friends try it out for the first time.

It is great exercise, too.

I'm nearly sure that I read that a State Dept. of Ed. (can't remember which one) was buying them in mass quantities for schools to incorporate in their P.E. programs.

Yes, my DS's school has them for gym class! I don't know how many, though.

Just got an IM from older DS who is babysitting younger brother. Tells me younger DS is "playing DDR, so it's not my fault if the floor collapses." Yikes -

Last night I managed to burn 130 calories (so says the device.) Whether or not that's true, I must have spent over an hour on it, which felt like 5 minutes. That's the key to a good exercise routine - one that doesn't bore you to death. :dance3:

I also like it because it challenges you, and you want to do better each time. Like you said, before you know it, you have been at it for an hour!
