Day 9 29th December 2005 Animal Kingdom and a nice relax
The cast:
Me (Karen) mad planner and disaholic
Pete, my husband, hates planning, goes along with what we happen to be doing
Andrew, best friend and Disney mad
Sue, best friend, married to Andrew, also Disney mad but doesnt often admit it (although admits it more these days!)
As the past few days have been quite long we were feeling quite tired today and so were not up and about as quickly as usual. We drove to the AK and arrived at 9:30, now I know you are supposed to get to the park for opening and I feared this would haunt us today. When we arrived it looked busy and it was already very warm. I love AK but there were only 2 must do attractions for me this trip here. I love the safari ride and I really wanted to do Dinosaur as somehow we managed to miss this on the last trip. We went straight over to the safari and thought of getting a fast pass for later but the line was 20 minutes long and as there was nothing else we really wanted to do in the mean time so we decided to wait in the shade. I love seeing the animals on the safari although the fake posh English accent always causes us to laugh on this ride.
As soon as we had finished we headed over to Dinosaur to get a fast pass which was for 45 minutes later. I was surprised at this as the park really did feel crowded. We decided to go for a walk around the tree of life and found some paths in the shade that were really quiet which was nice. We also saw 2 macaws that had escaped from their tree area and we spent a while taking pictures of the, and chatting to their keeper which was great fun and very informative. Then we had a little time for some shopping. Soon it was 12:30 and time for our fast pass. I loved the dinosaur ride and wished I had ridden it before. By now the crowds were quite big and as it was a hot day and we had done our must do attractions we decided to head back to the villa. Today was the first day that I thought I had felt the crowds.
So we drove back to the villa and looking at the cars still pouring into the AK we were glad we had made that decision. Once back at the villa we wondered down to the Beach Club Marketplace to get some salad for lunch and a cold drink. We decided that as it was hot and we had been quite busy over the past few days we would just hang out at the villa and relax for the afternoon. We had a few hours sleep and then went for a dip in the quiet pool and a relax in the Jacuzzi. I was glad we took time to do this as afterwards I felt really relaxed and refreshed.
Soon it was time to get ready for dinner. We drove back to the AK and over to the AKL to dinner at Bombas. I loved this place. I love the AKL theme as I love the whole Africa vibe. Firstly we ordered drinks and I ordered a martini and the CM asked me for ID! I actually though this was quite good as 1) Im 30 this year so if someone thinks I might be under 21 that really is a compliment and 2) Its good that they should check and keep in line with the law. As Sue has a food allergy the chief came out to speak to her (I have to say WDW is great for someone with food allergies, every night the chef would come out and speak to her and take her through the menu and then cook something special for her.) I have to say though tonight was the best. We all got our plates and lines up for the buffet and Sue got some salad. Soon the chef came back with the most amazing dish I had ever seen that he had created especially for her. It looked like a huge birds nest!! Then when we were about to line up for desert the chef brought Sues. He had made her a selection of all sorts of mini cakes which were amazing. After the meal we decided to head back to the BCV to have some drinks of champagne back at our room before heading to bed.
Tomorrow we go shopping!
