Day 10 December 30th 2005 Shopping!!
The cast:
Me (Karen) mad planner and disaholic
Pete, my husband, hates planning, goes along with what we happen to be doing
Andrew, best friend and Disney mad
Sue, best friend, married to Andrew, also Disney mad but doesnt often admit it (although admits it more these days!)
OK, please bear with me today, I firstly have to say as an English girl who loves shopping coming to America is like heaven. Clothes are so much cheaper here, especially the labels I like to buy. (At this point I am greatful for the great bagage allowence we get on our flight and the fact that I have packed a spare suitcase!!) Although not everyone in our group loves to shop. Myself and Andrew love it, Sue and Pete hate it (although when Sue finds things she likes she suddenly gets excited!)
So we decide to have a bit of a lie in as today is going to be a relaxing day as well. Last time we came to America Pete was looking at guitars and Andrew encouraged him to look again. So we looked at guitar places in the phone book and decided to go there first after a bit of breakfast. So we headed out into town, not 100% sure exactly where we were going (and here again we found that Floridian maps bear no resemblance to the roads that are around!) So we drive around for a while attempting to locate land marks to find the place. Fortunately the directions in the phone book were quite good and we found the shop almost straight away which was great. What was not great was the fact that it didnt open for another hour!!
So we decide to head out to the Mall at the Millennia, great idea, again not so great on the map. So having driven around for a while getting confused I noticed a street with the word Millennia on it and we decide to drive down it just in case it lead us somewhere useful. I have to say at this point, today we really did get to see residential Orlando! Luckily the road did lead us in the right direction and we were soon at the Mall. So we head in and I look around Bloomingdales (I felt like Rachel in friends!), Macys and Nemum Marcus. Then we headed over to Pacsun to look at Roxy clothes. I love Roxy clothes but in England they are so expensive. I couldnt believe it when I looked at the labels and they were about half the price what we would pay in the UK!! So I get a few tops and a cardigan and head off to look around a few more shops. After a while we are shopped out so go to the food court for lunch before heading back to the guitar shop.
Now as I have dragged Pete around the mall for a while without complaints from him I feel I should offer encouragement in the guitar shop. So Sue and I sit and Pete plays several guitars (encouraged by Andrew who cant play but keeps choosing ones he just likes the look of!). The we sit some more, sit for longer, and sit for longer. Eventually Pete decides upon a guitar he wants (as again they are so much cheaper than in the UK) so he buys it and a flight case so he can take it back on the aeroplane as hold luggage (fortunately we are allowed 2 cases per person on our flight). Then as we realise we have quite a bit of stuff in the car we decide it would probably be a good idea to head back to the BCV and unload before we carry on. So we (quite easily as we are getting used to the roads by now) drive back to the BCV and have a quick drink before we head out one more.
Now we decide to go to the premium outlets. I loved this place last trip and cant wait to go there again. The place seemed really busy as it took us ages to find a parking space but when we got in there it wasnt as bad as what I feared in might. So firstly we head off to Tommy Hilfiiger, many items and several bags later we head out of there onto another Pacsun shop. Again, several bags later we move on. Do you see a pattern forming here? So we shop for a while (Pete gets things too) and shop some more. By now I realise what time it was. Petes sister is getting married on New Years Eve in Australia (she planned the wedding after we booked our trip so we couldnt go) and we worked out that due to the time difference now would be mid day, a few hours before her wedding. So we gave her a ring to wish her luck.
By now it was 5:30pm and we decided we better get back to the BCV as we have an ADR at Ohanas this evening. I had been looking forward to this meal all week as we have never eaten there before. So we head back to the villa. Unfortunately this is where are rather useless map comes into play again. So after yet another detour around Orlando we arrive back at the BCV with only a few minutes to change before we have to head out again. So I quickly change into some of my new clothes and head back to the car to drive to the Poly. We had to wait about 10 minutes for our table which was great as it gave us time to have a quick look around the resort. Soon we were seated and we had a great table by the window overlooking the lake. Although we dont have kids we enjoyed seeing other kids having fun with the coconut races and the limbo dancing. Again as Sue has food allergies the chef came out and made Sue a special plate of starters, main course and pudding. We really enjoyed the meal, but we were full quite quickly. By now it was nearly time for Wishes so we decided to head down to the beach and watch it from there. We found some hammocks (easy to get into, not so easy to get out of we discovered!) and watched the fireworks from there which was great.
As soon as the fireworks were over we decided to head back to the BCV. We realise it is almost time for Illuminations so we decided to wander down to the dock in front of the Yacht Club, sit on the bench and watch the fireworks from there. This evening has been a great evening for firework viewing. As we were out we decided to do a lap of the Boardwalk to walk off dinner before returning back to our room to enjoy a glass of champagne on our patio before bed.
