Dan Fogelberg

Just a little bit of hijacking -- Cindy -- Dan Fogelberg was the first concert I ever saw at the Tower. We took the El in and it was snowing!. LOL! It was 1975 or early 1976. I saw the Kinks at the Tower -- I can't remember which year, somewhere between '76 and '80 and I saw BRUCE at the Tower in December of 1976! LOL! I saw Billy Joel at the now non-existant Temple Univeristy Fairgrounds, Ambler campus (that's the only time I've ever seen Billy Joel)! Same with Bonnie Raitt and Crosby and Nash. I'm old! :p :o :o

Okay, back to Dan. :p

Bruce at the Tower.. wow Saffron! NOwadays, its Martin Lawrence, and the Temptations reunion tour, and Mary J. Blige...

And no, you aren't old!

As for Dan Fogelberg, he sure looks different than those 70's albums that DH has...

I really love the song "Run for the Roses". Every year when we watch the Kentucky Derby on TV, my DH turns the volume on the TV down and we play that song when the race starts. It's really very emotional.

I like Dan Fogelberg, and like others, his songs make me a bit sad. I think Leader of the Band is the saddest, it reminds me of my Granddaddy.

Once me & DH were driving somewhere, and Same Old Lang Syne came on. I must have been PMSing, because I started sobbing! DH knew better than to say a word, he just sort of patted my back and let me cry. LOL.

I just love Dan Fogelberg too. My roommate and I would listen to his album for hours in college. I still have the album somewhere I think but I don't have anything to play it on.

I asked DS to burn a CD with his songs and he about died. He still hasn't done it for me.

Leader of the Band reminds me of my SIL.:) Her dad was a professor of music at a college in Carrollton, GA.:) She doesn't have any siblings, but for some reason that song reminds me of her and her dad.:)

There's one line in Same Old Lange Syne that makes me cry everytime I hear it. If I'm PMS'ing or not.;)

I just went to half.com to get a DF CD. I've been meaning to anyway!;)

It's a really good album.

The lyrics to "Stars" are quite nice, very melancholy...

Stood out in the rain
Let it soak me down
Before I called you...I called you.
Didn't see me there
Hidden by the rain
Beneath your window...But I saw you.

Putting on your face before the
Mirror on the wall
Dreaming that the looking glass
was me...
Catching your fondest gazes
Living through your fickle phases
I love you.

And it's getting easier each day
To weep about you
Harder every night to sleep without you
How many years must I be driven
By this dream
Of love with you?

Spend my dimes on phones
Trying just to talk but
You don't answer...you let it ring.

Spend my nights alone
Catching falling stars to
Give to you, love,
They're just for you.

For stars fall every time a
lover has to face the truth
And far too many stars have
fell on me.
And as they trail the skies
And burn their paths upon my eyes
I cry.

That's beautiful, OK.:) Dan is a magnificent poet.:) I love to look at stars.:) I'll have to look for that cd now.:)

BWVDenise, the power of the DIS is wonderful, isn't it?;)

OK, for all of you criers out there!

Phoenix
I have cried too...I have cried too long
I have cried too...I have cried too long
No more sorrow...got to carry on

Found deep water before I'd even learned to swim
Found deep water before I'd even learned to swim
Never thought I'd see the sun again
Once I was a...once I was a man alone
Once I was a...once I was a man alone
Now I've found a heart to call my home
Like a Phoenix I have risen from the flames
Like a Phoenix I have risen from the flames
No more living someone else's dreams

I have cried too...I have cried too long
I have cried too...I have cried too long
No more sorrow...got to carry on
You almost had me, old lady You almost tied me down good
You played the lady in waiting And I waited as long as I could
Too long the songs have been silent Too long the strings have been still
I never knew what you wanted And I guess that I never will
Like a Phoenix I have risen from the flames
Like a Phoenix I have risen from the flames
No more living someone else's dreams

I have cried too...I have cried too long
I have cried too...I have cried too long
No more sorrow...got to carry on

I love this one too!...

I LOVE Dan F. too, Shannon. One of my favorites when I was in college. His "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" album with Tim Weisberg was played about 1000 times!

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to listen to any of his stuff for the past, oh 17 years or so. DH thinks his songs are "sissy, weeny stuff"

Deb, my SO and I very, very rarely agree on anything. We both love Dan Fogelberg. He ignores me when I cry when I hear his songs though.

HolyCow, that is pretty.:) I'm not sure if I know that song though. I'd know it if I heard it.

Dan pulls on my heartstrings. He's very talented.:)

OldKicker! That's another album I wore out! I never replaced it because I couldn't find it anymore. :( I wonder if they sell it on CD?

Haha Holycow! Phoenix doesn't make me cry, it makes me feel like rocking out and yelling, "YEAH!!!!" LOL! :p ;)

Maggie - I have the vinyl and the CD on Home Free...I'm sure it's available on Amazon. :)

oldkicker - Home Free is the album I have. Do you have the words to Be On Your Way. That song had particular significance for me:)

Here ya' go, Cinlee...

Be on you way
Don't try to say that
You love me still.
If we couldn't find
The right dream by now
Then we never will.
We paid our dues at the door
And never once saw the stage.
We wrote our share of love's lore
And never quite filled the page.
So be on your way.

Be on your way.
Maybe someday we will
Meet again.
Try not to cry
Tears make me think
How it might have been.
We loved as strong as we could
But love only got in our way.
We took our time to be free
There's nothing much more to say but
Be on your way.

Maggie - Here's the Amazon link

Sorry my friend, but I am going to have to deviate from the norm and go with Jim Croce:

Time in a Bottle

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
Till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then
Again I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that'd never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory of how
They were answered by you
