Anyone have any creative ideas for the Bridging ceremony when a Daisy becomes a Brownie? I thought I'd bake brownies and put the troop number on them. What about any invitation ideas for the girls to give their families or other ideas for the ceremony. We made, as a troop, butterflies to decorate the room with. Any help appreciated.

I didn't actually see it, but last year when my niece became a brownie they were baked. As described by my sister, the girls were put in a bowl (circle of Juniors that was helping) and stirred (they twirled around) and added sprinkles (confetti). Then one the girls were put into the oven (a big box decorated as an oven) and one by one came out of the oven as a brownie.

Okay, now that I've given a description of something I've never seen, my suggestion is invitations that look like an oven. Open the door to the oven to see all the information.

Robin that is a very cute idea.

We "bridged" the Daisy's over and actual wooden bridge that has been used for bridgings. They then had a "pond" and as a Daisy leader started turning them did the saying...

Twist me
Turn me
Show me the elf
I looked in the mirror and saw myself...

The girl stated their name, they crossed the bridge and on the other side was a brownie Girl Scout welcoming and then pinning them with their Brownie Elf pin. And then I have seen this with a leader from the Daisy troop giving the girl either a Daisy or Carnation (closer to a daisy than a rose) as a congratulations.

I had thought to incorporate flowers too. Thanks for the suggestions, Please, keep them coming. We have a meeting on April 1st to discuss our plans. Thanks again.

One of the neatest things to do is find the 3rd grade troop for your school, neighborhood, etc and have them get involved. They need to do something to help a younger troop move up for their bridging to juniors.

We have done this on both ends - when we bridged to Brownies and when we bridged to juniors. In both instances the older girls put the new "colors" on the Daisy to Brownie girls. One of the traditions in our service unit/school is for the troops to purchase the new sash and basic insignia (girls may elect the vest but then families pay the ~$10 difference in price!). This is something that many girls have seen brothers bridging from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts do and have adopted.

Instead of a pond I've seen troops use big sections of aluminum foil surrounded by potted plants or a mirror to look into. We also have a bridge that our SU owns and it rotates around the schools for Courts of Award.

I believe that Mac Scouter has a section of their website - www.macscouter.com devoted to Girl Scouts - they have ideas for songs, skits, ceremonies, etc.

I use it a lot for Boy Scout ideas. You might want to check it out. Also, if you go to www.google.com and type in Girl Scout Ceremonies, I am sure that you will get tons of websites chocked full of ideas!

I used to be a helper at Brownies, quite a while ago, before they had Daisys (or Rainbows as they are called over here).

Is part of the Brownie story, and a really traditional poem to use at a bridging ceremony.

We also used to have all the Brownies make a circle, and each new Brownie (or Daisy in your case), would be brought into the circle by an existing Brownie (in our case it used to be the girl who would be their Sixer once they had joined), and she would bring the girl into the circle, two girls would bar the way, and say 'Halt who goes there', then the Sixer would say

This is xxx, who wishes to become a member of the 3rd Monkseaton Brownie Pack,

and the girls would raise their arms like an arch, and say 'Step inside and see Brown Owl'

The new Brownie would then go into the center of the circle and make her promise.

We would always finish every Promise Ceremony with the song 'Good Evening Friend Brownie, How are you this evening, let's dance and a circle and Bow and Pass on', this gives each girl in the group a chance to dance with every other girl in the troup, and is a nice welcome. You can hear ithere

Phew - it's 25 years since I was a Brownie, and about 15 since I was a helper, and that's all just come flooding back to me as if it was yesterday.

My daughter has just joined the Rainbows, and will be making her first promise shortly, I am eager to go along and see what they do to make that ceremony special for her.
