Or not?

DW retraces her path in each direction.

I take an entirely different route in the morning than in the evening. The evening route is about a mile shorter, but there are numerous a.m. traffic headaches along that route that aren't an issue in the evening.

Edit: I the mornings, I head North, then East.
Home, I go South, then West

Different days, I might be coming from different places or going to somewhere other than home at night. I also have a couple different optional routes in the morning, depending on traffic flows/jams.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, we have a website called 511.org that can give estimated travel times from certain points. The estimates come from assembling data collected via toll transponders, where they claim the collection process is anonymized unless there's something like a vehicle reported stolen (and where they can be used to track a stolen vehicle).

I have a long commute and I've found various ways to get to work. When driving, sometimes I get a faster estimate with about an 8 mile detour. The issue is typically one extremely clogged corridor where it can occasionally take about 40 minutes to go 10 miles.

I posted on the other thread that we live in Unalaska, AK (Dutch Harbor for those that watch Deadliest Catch.

I take the same way each day as there is only one main road. I could go the opposite way on our street and that would take me around to the end of the island but would still need to take the main road to get to work.

To and from the station by work, I walk on different streets in the morning and the evening.

I go different ways.

On the way to work I pull out of our development and go through the stop lights and merge on the the highway.

On the way home I continue up the highway and come in the back entrance to the development.

I can't leave going out the back wya without having to go up the highway in the opposite direction then making a U-turn to head the right direction. I go this way home because it saves time over sitting at the forever long light at the Wegman's.

Yes, unless there is an accident or weather that is backing up the highway. Then I have two alternate routes.

Assuming I'm going home right after work, then most of the time it's basically the same way. It's a bit different because of how I have to get on a particular bridge is different each direction.

Traffic on the way back to the house is way worse than traffic to work, so I change it up sometimes when I'm too irritated to deal with the traffic (both take about the same amount of time, just one has less traffic and is less direct).

I take different routes. In the morning I go out to our main street to take DD to preschool before backtracking on the same route to get to work. In the afternoon I take a mountain road to pick her up and go back home as it shaves almost 25 minutes off of the process. The afternoon traffic here is horrible and it's not unheard of to spend 20 minutes at the traffic light to turn onto the main road.

I take different routes in the morning and evening. If I took my morning route home, i'd never get home!!!! its awful!! And vice versa. Go figure. :confused3

I work out of my boss's home. So every morning, I take the train to her town, and walk the rest of the way. In the afternoons, she goes to the rec center in my town to teach classes. She gives me a ride to the rec center, and then I walk home.

On days when she isn't heading to the rec center, sometimes I walk back to the train and sometimes I use a car service. A few times a month I'll drive both ways.

It's been 6 years since I had a commute and it was 55 miles each way. I had one route that was all highway that I would take in the morning to "get there", and an all country road that I would often take home to enjoy some twisties.

When I worked outside the home my commute was generally the same each way. About 1-1/4 miles west on my road, then about 5 miles south. I do remember one year they were resurfacing the road so I had to take a gravel road while they were doing that. I was always thankful I only had about 6 miles to drive to/from work, especially when I was coming home at night.

Just depends on the way I feel. It's only 4.5 miles. I don't have to be at work til 10am so if I do errands/shopping in the morning I go one way. Same applies if I go somewhere after work. If I'm just going to work & going home, then I usually take the same route both ways. Less traffic, no shopping areas.

Yes. Dh does. The train is in one place so he has to go that direction!

When we lived in LA, I took the same route unless there was an accident. DH tended to check the computer before leaving to see about road conditions and then plan a route accordingly. He had a few options.

There's a few local side streets I can and do sometimes take, but in general, for the bulk of the commute there is no alternative. Only one bridge on and off the island.

I either walk or take the bus to class, and always use the same road. It's close and there's no traffic, so my itinerary doesn't make much of a difference.

I take the bus to work (3.5 miles from my house), and switch it up depending on the season. Outside of summer, all 3 of the options I have take about the same time. The tourist season starts in May, and trying to get home from work in the summer is complete hell, with crazy traffic and construction work everywhere. I always take the same bus to work, as it's not too bad in the morning. However, I made the wrong choice tonight when trying to go home, and it took the bus 50 minutes to travel those 3.5 miles! I will definitely be switching to a different route tomorrow. It's not usually this bad, but if it keeps being like this, I'll probably just walk it, and get some exercise in the process :thumbsup2
