DAH-Magic Kingdom Expectations and Strategy for 1st Hour

Hello,

Our family of 4 just bought DAH- MK tickets for Thursday, Feb. 14th. Park closes at 9pm that night. Although we are WDW veterans, this is our first time doing DAH. I have read many posts and discussions on this board about the event. My question is what should we expect in terms of lines at the beginning of the event? Since day guests can still get into line for attractions up till 8:59, will lines be backed up? If so, for how long until things become "Walk-On"?

We are a big Tomorrowland and Frontierland family. Can anyone offer strategies of how to manage our time from 9-12??

My experience with DAH was things were walk on pretty quickly. I started in Adventureland and and JC & Pirates were both walk on at start of event then made my way to Frontierland. Splash was down, so I went to BTMRR and it was a 10 minute wait and I think that was because they were taking the people who were going to do Splash. I kept working my way around the park and never saw another line again for the rest of the night. I did 7DMT about 45 minutes before end of event and ended up doubling back to Splash in the last 5 minutes. Not sure if my experience is typical or not, but we spent next to no time waiting, most of the time was just walking the queues.

It's a common misconception that the lines are long right up until closing time. Most rides, except for a couple of the headliners, will be walkons even before the park closes. For those, Disney has processes in place to make the lines appear to be longer than they really are which discourages late riders. At MK, you may want to hold off on 7D for a little while as it may still have a 10-15 minutes wait. You should be good to go on almost anything else.
