My soon-to-be 13 year old daughter is stricken with a severe case of One Direction-itis. Unfortunately, like the big dummy that I am, I was asleep at the wheel when the group's concert tickets (touring this summer) went on sale. Now, the only tickets I can find are from wholesalers at 4-5x actual face value.

I'm in no way asking for any freebies, but just hoping someone on these boards might "know a guy" that can help with reasonably priced tickets. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone can identify with my predicament, it's fellow disboard devotees. Either way, Happy New Year everyone!

Sorry, don't know anyone but have you checked craigslist? I've bought/sold tickets for various concerts there. You can even put a listed under wanted. I just did so for a sold out concert for DD and got an email from someone willing to sell theirs. It's worth a try.

I was online when they went on sale and still couldn't get them. Its horrible. Brokers and other people are buying max amount and selling them for thousands. Really wish I could help, but in the same boat.

Keep checking especially closer to the date. Ticketmaster tends to release tickets, sometimes the best seats in the house closer to the date of the show. I once walked up to a venue the day of the show at 10 am and got 3rd row tickets. Well OK I got there about 7 am and they went on sale at 10....but you get the idea lol.

Your best bet is to not pay those prices so that the people who buy them just to stick them on resale sites won't get the absolutely ridiculous scalper prices they are asking for.

Keep checking stubhub as the concert gets closer and the vultures get nervous and the prices will start to drop. My dd 15 saw them last summer and had a great time, but even she knows it is foolish to pay 500 dollars for a concert ticket. Trust me, all those people selling awful nosebleed tickets for 300 a piece will scramble at the end to drop the prices when nobody is biting.

I don't know if it exists on Ticketmaster.com (I only had a UK account) but there is a section if you log in to your account where people put their tickets on there to resell. It stops people from charging ridiculous amounts.

Sorry, I haven't got a clue.

Just for fun, I just checked to see when they'll be around here. My daughters would LOVE to see them.

End of June, tickets start at $250.

Of course, the venue, the Nikon Theater at Jones Beach, is currently under water as a result of Hurricane Sandy. I have no idea of the odds that it will be operational by spring, though I've heard that's the plan.

So, no, I won't be spending $750 on three tickets.

I just checked again for fun. First show of two in Toronto. There are floor tickets at over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS a piece. I kid you not. We were online the night they went onsale. Servers crashed and by the time they came back up, all the tickets were gone. Over a thousand of them were on resale sites within minutes. If something isn't done to stop this nonsense nobody will be able to see a show anymore without paying scalper prices. It makes me ill.

LOL.. spoke too soon. There's floor seats over three thousand a piece. Unbelievable.

Best advice: wait!

I bought DD tickets to see their show last June on StubHub. I bought them Friday evening for a Sunday show. I paid maybe $10-$15 above face value and there were tons available in that range.

My DD13 is obsessed as well!! I completely lucked out and got them at face value in December however I was told by ticket master that seats usually do open up before the show (this is how I lucked out and got mine a wonderful ticketmaster employee who went the extra mile!!!). But the closer the concert gets the lower the price will go on stub hub. And honestly you figure the people that bought them a year ago their kids may not be into them by the time the concert rolls around....and hence they will flood the market and be lower price on CL, ebay, stub hub, etc. Honestly I would wait it out and NOT buy now. You will pay an arm and a leg...and for whate? The same ticket WILL be cheaper in 4 months...

My husband works in the concert industry, and my advice is the same. Tickets are often released the day of the show due to seats being blocked off as tech kills, then once the production starts or is done, they decide if seats are sellable. Understand though, tech kills can be in any section, so it is does not always mean the best seats in the venue.

Right up until the start of the show, or sometimes after, there will often be tickets available due to someone on a guest list deciding they don't want them.

when Miley was HUGE tickets were going for well over $1,000 each. I had read here to try the morning of the show. Turns out that after she had her stage in they realized they could fit two more seats on the end of each row right by the catwalk. We had 10th row, up against the stage for face value, 2hrs before showtime. There were about 10 of us that pulled this off. People near us were pi**ed, 'cause everyone else in the section had purchased from scalpers for thousands of dollars, and we had better seats. pixiedust:

Love the Dis!

Thank you all, as now I feel much better about waiting it out. I'll also show my daughter your responses. She too will be grateful for your input, and dad'll be cool again for at least a little while.

I have sold my tickets for concerts in the past at face value at the last minute. Just make sure that everyone you know knows that you are looking, and are happy to pay cash if anything becomes available at the last minute. You never know! pixiedust:

Same thing happened when they went on sale for the concert here last year. We had 2 computers ready as soon as they went on sale (have super fast Internet connection) and still couldn't get any. Within minutes there were tons on the resale sites for outrageous prices. Sad.

Good luck OP -- I hope you can get some at a decent price.

I hope you eventually grab some tix. I also have a 1D obsessed 13 yr old DD (as well as a 6 yr old fan). She is going to the Hershey show in July with friends and they bought their tix last June.

I think the tix may have been on sale for a few months at that point and I thought it was nuts to buy concert tix for a show over a year away. LOL But at least she has them now. Problem is little sis now wants to go and I think the concert seems to be sold out. I think I might follow the advice here and hope some tix become available closer to the date.

We are hoping to see One Direction this summer when they come to Illinois. Tixs sold out so fast online that I missed out but am still holding out hope that I will get my girls to the show to see their favorite band when it gets closer. Pixie Dust to us all:)

in the same boat - but for taylor swift tix. not sure what to do ...just hold out like everyone is suggesting? :confused3

Sorry I can't help about tix, but just a fun story about bands and how they feel about scalpers. I recently got tix for a Mumford and sons concert in Boston on presale. The tickets said paperless and you HAVE to have the credit card used to purchase the tix to get the tix. The band wrote a memo after on their website saying they did this to discourage scalpers from buying up tickets. So we'll see how this works. There are still tons of scalper tix available for them though. The concert sold out really quick.

Hoping for tickets in NC as well! She asked about it last July when they went on sale but I had never heard of them. And, the concert isn't until June - didn't know if she would even like them a year later. She has just about wallpapered her entire bedroom with their pictures so I guess she'll still want to go in June.
