Daddy/Daugther Trip - Documentation Required???

Holy cow to the bolded. I can't imagine the nightmare that creates for some parents (not to mention the expense). There are too many kids who only have one parent in their life...and who knows where the other one is. Now that I think about it, the first time we cruised I had my ds with me, and he is from my first marriage...so I guess I've broken the rules both times I cruised.

I know my daughter has no contact with her father, he's not even on the birth certificate. So I don't know what I'd do about that. Although maybe the fact that he's not on the B.C. would be enough.

and while at our former apartment complex playground with toddler DS he heard a woman calling the police because there was a man who "didn't match any of the children". Hashing it out in the courts is great...but I'd rather not let it get there to begin with.

Has this woman never heard of adoption?! Lots of parents don't look like their kids. My coworker's husband is caucasian and covered with tattoos, etc. Their daughter is African-American. I can just imagine someone seeing him with her and jumping to the conclusion that he'd kidnapped her! *sigh*

I know right. It's sad that it's come down to all this. Some cruiselines are more strick than others. I have been quizzed like you wouldn't believe by a customs agent "trying" to do his job. Luckily I had the travel consent form. I can't imagine not being able to go after all the plannning and expense.

Since he is not on the BC you will be fine. You are her only parent. The Dad would have to go to court to get any rights.

Someone in that situation has already gotten the documents needed to get the child's passport to begin with. There's a whole flowchart on the passport site for single parents. At the end of it, if you can't get anything from the parent at all, you're going to court to get sole parenting documentation anyway, so just take that.

Hubby and son still have not gone on a plane just the two of them, but I've long thought I would write something up, even domestically. Strangers just can't see the similarities between them, and he's been accused to his face of stealing DS (while standing outside a women's dressing room, holding my coat, my purse, infant, diaper bag, and sling) and while at our former apartment complex playground with toddler DS he heard a woman calling the police because there was a man who "didn't match any of the children". WOW some people have nerve! I am so sorry that your family had that happen to you. Some people need to mind their own business. People adopt or have interacial children all the time. Just beacuse a child "doesn't match" doesn't mean they are kidnapped. :sad2:

I don't know about cruises, but for travel to Mexico you absolutely need this. It's easy to get and to be on the safe side I would do it, just in case.

I thought that wasn't allowed anymore, that there was some code even put in for a sperm donor? I mean, there's always some sort of sperm donor... Could there be a birth certificate without a mother's name on it? Or a completely blank one, just the child's name/DOB? Can she get a passport without a complete birth certificate, I thought the US government was cracking down on all of that?

To the OP - if you are stepping off that ship at any time, onto foreign soil, you'd better have all the documentation you can think of, and then some. All US rights and laws vanish as soon as you step off that ship.
