No big surprise here.

Remember the dad that took his kid to a gun show and ALLOWED his 8 y/o to fire an Uzi? The Uzi killed the boy and now the dad apparently doesn't take any responsibility for his actions. Instead, he is suing. Gotta love America.

I don't care if the Uzi jammed. That is a risk with ANY gun. Hence the reason you don't allow an 8 y/o to play with something that has a huge potential to KILL. And if you do allow it, take responsibility for your own stupid parenting mistakes.

I do agree that the gun show had no business allowing a kid to use an Uzi in the first place. But just because they are stupid enough to allow it doesn't mean a parent has to be stupid enough to let their 8 y/o try it.

I assume if the Uzi hadn't jammed and the boy was still alive, daddy would have felt this was still a perfectly acceptable activity for an 8 y/o. Afterall, a BB gun at that age is for sissy boys. Only real 8 y/o's use Uzi's.

I am just so sick of people not taking responsibility for their own stupidity!

I feel bad for his loss, but I hope whomever he is suing, sues him back. It's the Dad's fault for letting his son play with it in the first place.

 Oh I remember that story. Its a shame there is nobody left to sue the father for his part in his son's death.

Ridiculous. And you know they will probably settle just for it to be over and done with. Just once, I'd like to see some of these companies to fight back.

We had a similar tragedy here in my town. There were two brothers home alone, while their parents were away on a trip. (The older brother was an adult) The older brother was trying to show the other one how to use a gun. Anyway, the gun jammed, and the older brother was fiddling with it. Shot his brother right in the chest and killed him. How absolutely awful....

Of course, the parents apparantly have an ounce of sense, because while they were devastated, they did not sue anyone.....gun manufacturer, gun shop, etc etc. Of course, the father is an attorney, so he probably knew better than to try to put together some ridiculous claim.

If the instructor had prohibited the child from using the gun, the father would have raised a stink because he is responsible for his son's safety and the instructor should not tell him what to do.

Personally I think criminal charges should have been filed against this father, HE caused the boy's death. Just sad.

 I 100% agree, OP...some people are looking to blame anyone else for their own stupid actions.

And the cynical side of me also thinks that this creep is trying to "profit" from his son's death; someone probably convinced him he could make a few bucks off the gun show people and so he sued. But as I said, that's the cynical side of me.

Working for attorneys, I see this kind of thing practically on a daily basis; noone in the world seems to be willing to take responsibility for anything, and will go to the ends of the Earth to find someone else to blame.

Yesterday I talked to a lady who wanted to sue the bar she went to where she got plastered, fell while dancing, and broke her arm. Makes me sick! :crazy2:

Terrible to hear about the loss of an 8 year old boy; even worse that it's basically the "macho" father's fault. :sad1:

Why can't whomever he is suing, sue him back?

I was being facetious. This father is responsible for his child's death and the only one who could benefit from suing him for it, is that child.

That's what I was thinking too so color me cynical as well.

Maybe it's just in Indiana, but I have yet to be to a gun trade show that you can have a loaded gun inside the show area. Every gun show I have been to with DH, if you go into the show, you have to have your gun inspected at the door and they zip tie it to keep you from loading it. You also can not put a loaded magazine back into the chamber.

Even the venders can not have a loaded gun on display. They have to have the guns they are selling have the same zip ties on their guns. And I have NEVER seen or heard of a vender where you can actually pay to live fire a few rounds thru a gun.

As gun owners and parents, there is NO WAY we would have ever let our kids do this. Even with our guns, the kids know when they target shoot with us, IF they have a jam, safety on, lay it on the hay bales that we shoot from behind and let us know. Don't walk around with it and DO NOT EVER point it at anyone including yourself, and DO NOT try to unjam it yourself. They also know that a clean, well maintained gun with good ammo in it, is less likely to jam then a dirty, unkept gun with cheap ammo in it.
