Part 4 - The Great Wedgie Machine & Punk’d in Whispering Canyon.

The Cast
- DW (Da Wife) – Extreme luggage organizer, will try anything once, generally fun loving
- Me - Planning freak, DIS lover, and a 46 y.o. kid.
- DS 16 - (Mongo) – goofball with no sense of direction. Eats once a day….(the entire time he is awake
- DS 12 - (Taz) Large bundle of pure energy. Can be a picky eater. Will try anything twice.

Today is one of the days Mongo and Taz have been waiting for. It’s Blizzard Beach Day! I haven’t been to a water park in several years, so I was looking forward to it as well. Da Wife is a trooper and is actually looking forward to getting soaked, so long as her bathing suit stays on !! Our plan is to be there at opening. The morning is easy…breakfast is breakfast bars in the room, and slipping on our bathing suits and aqua socks isn’t all that difficult. Out the door at 8:30 and straight to the bus; things are running like a finely tuned machine. There is only one other couple on the bus, and they weren’t dressed for the water park. I sure hope this is a good sign that the park will be empty. When we roll into BB, the parking lot is a ghost town, maybe the first two or three rows filled up. It’s 9 o’clock and we’re going to have the park to ourselves!!! We get our towels and locker rental ($11, with $2 coming back when you return the key), slather on the sun block, and we’re off. (Note from Da Wife – Sun block should have been applied in the room. Not enough soak-in time and some sun burning resulted.)

The first ride of the day will be the family tube ride. “Hey, let’s take the steps, it’s quicker.” someone says. No one will admit to being the one that said it, but if I ever find out who it was, there will be hell to pay!! 127 steps (it’s a fact, I asked) later we are at the top of the hill. Jeez, hasn’t Disney ever heard of waterproof escalators??? We walk straight into a family tube and we’re off. Mongo makes a good counter balance for me, so the ride is equally wet for everyone. Nice long slide. One down and Summit Plummet to go. This time we take the chair lift….a much more civilized way to travel. (I should make note here that I am 1 year out of a complete knee reconstruction. Strength and stability are good, but endurance is an issue. Every trip to the top for me was via the lift. Even used the handicapped back door entrances for the other top hill slides. CMs were quite nice.) Once at the top, I realize that there are three more stories of steps to get to the Plummet part of the ride. This is where I gracefully chickened out. Mongo and Taz are in their “I’m bulletproof” years, and something got into Da Wife, and she opted to ride. Me, I took a back way to the racer sleds and made my way to the bottom to watch my family risk life and limb. Mongo’s down first…WHOOSH, then Taz….WHOOSH, then DA Wife….AHHHHHH!! Each of them stands up and begins to pick their bathing suit out of the darkest reaches of their behinds. As I look at them, I realize that the inventor of the thong bikini probably stood in this very spot when he got the inspiration for his suit design. The rest of the day was spent testing all the other slides and rides. Mongo and Taz do the Plummet several more times. Da Wife and I agree that the best slide in the park is the inside tube at the triple slide (forget the names). Quite fun!! We stop for lunch at Lottawatta Lodge. Standard burger fare, but chicken wrap really good. By this time it is almost 1 o’clock. Four hours is plenty at the water park, and the crowds have begun to arrive. We run the lazy river a few times and do 1 or two more slides, and then it’s back to the lodge. We need to rest up for our dinner at Whispering Canyon.

We’ve all been looking forward to WCC. It seems like just our kind of place. Silly and fun. Once the dinner bell rings we are seated dead center in the main room. Perfect placement for being in all the action. Our server is Chris, a trainee, and helping him is Jeanne, who seems to be the supervising CM. Jeanne and Da Wife hit it off, and it made for a great evening. They joke with each other, she allows milkshakes as our beverages, and then still brings us sodas later in the meal. At ~ 5:30, with the precision of a finely planned military action, Mongo’s phone rings. It is his girlfriend back home, who he misses dearly. He asks sheepishly if he can answer the phone. What he doesn’t know is that this call was planned weeks ago to be made for when he was at dinner in WCC. The CMs notice him answering and he is totally busted. “EVERYBODY QUIET!!!! HE’S MAKING A PHONE CALL!!”, say the CMs. One takes the phone and starts to talk to girlfriend, then makes everyone in the restaurant say hi. Mongo is turning 7 shades of red. The girlfriend is loving it, and I’m in tears from laughing so hard. We break it to Mongo that he has just been set up. He vows revenge, then continues to eat his ribs. This is the one meal all week I may have eaten too much. The meat was very good, as were all the desserts. Jeanne made a point to bring us one of everything, just so we could taste them. Yummy it all was, but I had too much.

After the meal, we decide to head for the MK. A sprinkle is in the air, but we are not deterred. When we get there we take the train to Adventureland. Taz wants to ride BTMRR. Wouldn’t you know, we almost walk onto the train. Then we went again, same thing, no wait. This Pixie Dust thing is neat!! After that we head for Pirates, but as we approach the road we are stopped by a CM. Seems we can’t pass right now, the parade is coming. We’ll just have to stand right next to the rope. We get every bit of the parade as it ends it’s route. Everyone is still very in character. I thought the Queen from Snow White was going to jump off the float and bite my head off. Man did she look evil. The parade ends and off to PoC. Again, no wait. Still love this ride. Taz is particularly thrilled, since the PoC movie is one of his favorites. Now he knows it’s origins. We also do a late night Jungle Cruise. Super driver, and great passengers on the boat. Just about as much fun as I’ve ever had on that ride.

The bones are weary and we make our way to the boat for our return trip to the lodge. We jump into our PJs and relax in the room before we lay our heads down for the evening. Tons of concentrated family time on this trip, and it all seems to be working so well. Parents and kids are all on the same wavelength. Man, that’s fun !!

With some luck we'll see you in Hershey this December. Berwick in the AAA championship game and North Penn in the AAAA game.

Thanks....we almost made it last year....one game away (from Hershey, I mean)....but, that really means nothing for this year, as you well know!
Go Dawgs! Go Knights!

That is hilarious about your son's phone call at WC!!! I want to be an embarrassing parent like you when my kids get older :goodvibes Keep the great reports coming!

WCC is the best. I've never seen the cell phone thing but I might try that on someone next time ;) Thanks for the fun report

My list of places I must eat next time is getting longer.... :rotfl:

Great WC story!!!! good planning. Thanks for sharing again :flower:

It's nice to see someone going to WDW with teenage sons. Do your kids still enjoy "family time"? I know my son sometimes rolls his eyes when I say that! I hear so much about teenage boys not liking WDW!

Disney 1,
Mine had a ball all week. They are good at bringing out the inner child. A lot of silliness in our family. Can't recall a time the whole trip when they pulled out the "I'm too cool for this" teenager thing.

We didn't focus on having "Family time" just having a fun time. The family time stuff just happened naturally from that.

Get 'em there and they'll have a ball !! Let them plan a day or two as well. Then they'll have an emotional investment in the trip too !!
