D90 pre-orders

As for the video feature,,, well,it is what it is. Would you rather they made the camera more MP's with worse noise at high ISO's or put in a simple video feature (which is basically just capturing the live view info onto the card) that the majority of users wont use.

Personally, I'd rather it have better ISO performance at 12.3MP with a video feature than, no video feature but with 15MP's and no so good high ISO performance.

Heck, there was time not to long ago when taking home movies was just the video. No audio. I also spent the first 26 years of my life without a cell phone (there are many many many people who spent a lot longer than that). Technology evolves and we evolve with it.

Back to the D90...
I like that link that Jeff post with the video blog. There are some nice images there and some video taken with the D90 too.

I glanced at that video thing early and there were some questions in the comments that weren't yet answered...

It sounds like it's a five-minute max recording (sensor overheating concerns), 1280x720, no autofocusing at all, no exposure adjustment at all, mono sound. A cute gimmick but hardly enough to make you leave your 640x480-movie-resolution PnS at home, much less a proper camcorder.

This isn't to take away from the rest of the camera. It's got some pretty solid specs, but then, the new 50D does, too.

Versus the D300, the autofocus is probably one of the big things you give up, along with build quality and weathersealing. Still, you're talking about a big difference in price. The D700 is 3x the price and probably doesn't really belong in the same comparison. If you are thinking about a D700, think about what kind of lenses you could buy for the $2k you're saving... if you can afford the D700 and high-end lenses, then hey, you're a lucky guy (or do it for a living or have no other hobbies!)

Imaging Resource has posted some "production-level sample" images HERE. The high-ISO shots, in particular, look pretty impressive.
