Why?
I was there on business… kind of.

AK and AKL Boma:
I hit AK on day 2 and was able to meet Lucky the dinosaur. OK, so we weren’t formally introduced, but you know what I mean. He’s very cool and I recommend paying him a visit when in AK. I haven’t figured out AK yet and so it doesn’t take me long to get things done there. I tried to stroll more casually and observe more, but I still breezed through. I did ITTBAB with no wait. I love watching people who do that attraction for the first time. Their reactions are priceless.

Dinner was at Boma tonight. I wasn’t sure what I was going to like but I tried a few different things. The hummus and flat bread was good but I didn’t care for the watermelon rind salad; is it just me or was that spicy? The peanut rice tasted just like the name implies but it was good nonetheless. My favorite was the Mutil… Mulltig… the chicken and apple soup (I’m a sucker for fruit in my soup). It was thicker than standard chicken soup and had sliced apples in it. There was almost a curry aftertaste to it. I also tried the lamb potjie (they said it’s like a potpie – it IS a potpie). Good thing I saved room for dessert! I tried several things but my favorite was the little cheesecake with pineapple on it (I’m a sucker for anything pineapple!). It sits atop a white chocolate wafer. I didn’t realize this until I couldn’t get my fork through it. I liked Boma overall but it would have been better with my DH there. He enjoys the whole “new food” experience more than me. He also can get his money’s worth out of any buffet! I thought it was too pricey for just me.

Epcot Evening EMH and Soarin’:
I found the nearest wrist band deployment line before I tried any rides. I got to Epcot just in time to see most of Illuminations.

As soon as that was over I booked over to the Land to check out Soarin’. Everyone else had the same idea; it was like the running of the bulls in Pamplona. I went directly to get a FP; I didn’t even look at the stand-by wait time.

In the mean time I got to ride the Living with the Land boat ride where I met a very nice lady with her young son. I did some wandering around, rode TT and SE, then went back to use my Soarin’ FP. WOW! What a spectacular ride! It was just amazing. When it was over someone touched my arm as I was walking out and asked me how I liked it.

Hey it’s the nice lady from the Land ride!

She’s with her daughter now (maybe 4 or 5 years old). We talk a bit about how we liked Soarin’ and she wants to know if I would like to do it again. Well, yeah! She has another FP, but only one. Her daughter was too tired to do it again so they were looking for someone to give it to when she recognized me. That was so great! What a great feeling to have that kind of pixie dust spread on me. It was a very nice connection we made. In words it seems so minimal, but at the time it was very special. Here’s a big thanks to Ilana (I think, it’s pronounced Ah-LANN-a) and her daughter for being so kind to me that night!

One more spin on Soarin’ and it’s time to go home.

Oh look, a long line – that must be mine.
