D23 EXPO THREAD - See you in 2019!

Started following this thread as we will be a first time family attending D23. Since there are 5 of us, I have been trying to gather as much info as possible to make the weekend go as smooth as possible. Toward that end, I was really excited when I saw the 'gold priority' for the big events, but then called up D23 to get specifics, and found it will not be as great as it sounds.

It took some probing questions, but found out 'priority' means they will have a (limited) set of reserve seats for gold. However, there will NOT be a separate line or entry for gold, you will need to stand in the normal line. Then (as she explained it to me) you will have to self identify with your membership card (the ticket credentials are not sufficient) when you enter and they will point you to the seats. They say they will be strict on membership type--only the gold member or plus 3 for family members will be able to get in with the one card.

However, knowing the information can be different depending on the rep talking, wanted to share and see if anyone had heard differently?

We walk from PP each year. I think there may have been some sort of shuttle? Cannot remember; if so, not for free. I do not mind the walk, as you are sitting a lot at the Convention (lines).

That sounds ridiculously complicated. You can ask about it when you're going into the arena but honestly once they let you in it all happens so fast you could give yourself worse seats while inquiring about better seats.

I was told the gold card is good for the member plus 1 guest. Can anyone clarify? I have gold membership, but I never really attend the events.

Question for a first-time D23'r: do the Disney hotels offer shuttle service to the convention center for the Expo? I'm staying at Paradise Pier and I know it's not a long walk, but if there is a shuttle, I'd love to know/be able to take advantage of it. Thanks!

There was not a shuttle in 2015. They said there would be and then halfway through the first day it conveniently disappeared off the FAQ.

They have often mentioned a shuttle in previous years...and I don't think I have ever actually seen one.

@wilkeliza Have you tried calling them?

Yeah, it makes no sense that they will make people go in alone. I'm guessing the person on the phone didn't really know what they were talking about. They are notoriously bad about service and having any information at D23.

I couldn't find the number today so I haven't called yet. Will try tomorrow if I can find the number. Wasn't sure if it was different then the regular D23 number. I wonder if I should call the socerers package people.

@wilkeliza Based on what I'm hearing from other Sorcerers having email issues, my suggestion would be calling the regular number (855-323-5973). They seem to be able to help...although it does appear to take a few days.

Aggravating! I'm still waiting for an email response to my passport submission.

I'm not sure how many years these expos have to go on before they figure out what they're doing. It seems like every year there's a new issue.

I can tell you from organization that do several cons over a single year and have been at it far longer then Disney still have a ton of problems every year.

Part of the issues stem from the length of time between events: staff turnover means lessons learned are lost. Then they try improvements that are basically untested.

Another sticking point: the battle between Disney and the Anaheim Convention Center for control and procedural rules.

I got bored today and am excited about D23 so I tried finding all the info that has been released and putting it together. I didn't do anything for the announced merch since I don't really care about that. Hopefully my list can help others. Let me know if I've missed something that was announced.

Nice! I'm hoping they put out the full schedule soon. It's getting close!

I can tell you from organization that do several cons over a single year and have been at it far longer then Disney still have a ton of problems every year.

It's so frustrating, since these are once in a lifetime events. These experiences can't just be repeated next time if you can't get in.

Part of the issues stem from the length of time between events: staff turnover means lessons learned are lost. Then they try improvements that are basically untested.

Another sticking point: the battle between Disney and the Anaheim Convention Center for control and procedural rules.

I know. It's not 100% their fault, it's just frustrating.

Yup ... at this point, the full schedule would certainly come in handy. They've leaked out just enough to confirm that I have no idea what to plan until I see the whole enchilada.

Agreed! I want the schedule!

For you Marvel fans (like me!) they have just announced their part of D23: https://news.marvel.com/more-marvel...-epic-experiences-fans-disneys-d23-expo-2017/

I am so excited about this! I feel like Marvel was seriously lacking in 2015.

Very happy for all of you Marvel and Disney TV animation fans, but the sessions announced outside of the big panels don't have me very excited. I'm sure there will be more announced down the line but I'm getting anxious!

I do hope the Marvel panels signal some Lucasfilm sessions coming down the line!
