D23 Expo September 9-11, 2022 Superthread **Updates in Posts 2 & 3**

Yeah its frustrating they had 3 years to plan panels and pick Legends and they seem to have muffed it. There are a few smaller ones I might like but they start just as the Hall D23 ends, so impossible to attend assuming I get into Hall D23. I can spend more time on the floor, I usually had little time for that until Sunday afternoon. I am fine waiting hours on standby for panels I like.

Re: merch, one of the disney influencers I follow on instagram announced that she's launching a Tiana-inspired clothing line with Disney, for sale at the Expo, details releasing on August 22nd. Possible that we'll have some merch announcements on that date?

Colormecourtney // Colormemagic, for anyone who's interested in seeing her announcement!

Currently, they are not asking people to wear masks.
Well, the link above says:
  • Masks will be required at all times for UNVACCINATED guests for their protection.
  • Masks will be strictly enforced for ALL GUESTS in certain areas where talent is present.
  • Masks are recommended for ALL GUESTS at all times throughout D23 Expo weekend.

So perhaps during some panels they will ask for masks, but it seems generally it is only a recommendation.

I probably ignored the first one, since I am vaxed. I think the second one may be for very close quarters, like maybe signings, or if the talent requests it. I had planned on wearing one indoors anyway, because I don't want to have to drive by myself 19 hours from California to Texas or quarantine in a hotel if I catch it. We have already done that too much this summer :( As for mask mandates in LA County, I don't think they will be applied to Orange County.

Do we get sneak peeks at what merch will be available before hand? I'm super interested in seeing the pins ahead of time. I vaguely remember something coming out for the 2019 expo but that feels like a gazillion years ago in the before times.
Doubtful I feel like we only really got those because Sorcerers got to buy things in advance and would post pictures of said merchandise. Since there are no Sorcerers this year and they dont usually publicly advertise exclusive merchandise its unlikely.

Regarding the Disney Legends awardees, my guess is that Bob Chapek will honor each of the Disney Board members that gave him an additional 3-year contract.
I wonder if he will get booed. I remreading he didnt go to Destination D because he thought hed get booed.

Hopefully people rather than booing just don't applaud unless he says something worth applauding. I plan on attending other presentations and shopping during the Legends Ceremony.
Same... not particularly interested so I figure I better leave it to those who really want it!

If you aren't planning on going to a presentation first thing, I imagine it makes sense to wait a little post opening? Is there ever an easy time to enter..?

Hard to say this time with the whole no overnight business. Id imagine there should be no lines around 11am

I have to imagine even if they don't let guests start the line overnight (we'll see how that goes) folks would still start lining up hours in advance in the morning, surely? Even the virtual shopping queues open at 6am (and again at 1).

Yes people will try to get there as early as possible which means morning lines should be significantly longer.

You do still have to transfer the pass in order for your bf to participate in the reservations process and doubling your chances of getting your picks.
so if I’m not really worried doubling chances for panels or whatnot I wouldn’t have to transfer then? Or is that also applicable to shopping/stores too? This is our first expo and we just want to experience it and have a good time, not waiting in lines or whatever. Just walk around enjoy the sights and especially cosplayers as I am a cosplayer too. I’m sure most if not all info/announcements in major panels will be everywhere after I’m not too concerned about having to hear it right then and there. Mostly just want to see the mousequerade, and the AHS panel of what I saw from the schedule. Maybe also the princess singing, but not the end of the world if we don’t get in.

Absolutely. If you don't like him, just don't applaud when he comes in. Booing him would be rude, and two wrongs don't make a right.

I'm not sure if it was strategic that he will be hosting the Legends ceremony or not. But I think it's wise since there will still be a lot of applause for the Legends themselves, which can provide him with cover.

It doesn’t hurt transfer and will increase your odds of getting the panel and signing that you want. Plus, D23 is saying the badges need to be transferred. There could be unforeseen problems if you don’t do the transfer. Is there some reason that you don’t want to do it? It’s very easy. I transferred 3 successfully.

There are also artist/talent signings and booth giveaways you can try for, not just panels. And like soniam said, it doesn't hurt to transfer.

The ongoing saga of the will they or won't they Muppets Christmas Carol panel continues.

Just 5 minutes ago the official D23 facebook account posted this. Granted, the link is to the same article they wrote on August 3, and it's still not on the official schedule. So who knows, but I have hope!
