d

first of all, i gotta defend monster house.
i totally loved it.
BUT I agree withe veryone saying that it is NOT meant for children!!
I'm 17 and I was sitting in a theatre full of kids under the age of 12 and I was suprised at the content.
But that being said, I AM 17 and I thought the movie was funny, and I thought the plot with the old man & his dead wife/house was kinda cute.
Anyways, I DO agree 100% that it should not be a children's movie.

I work at a movie theatre and you have NO IDEA how many parents came and asked for refunds after taking their small children (like 8 and under) to see Monster House. And for good reason.

Saw cars, it's really cute. I loved it.

And Happy Feet, the first part when they are singing & dancing is cute.
And I don't want to ruin the ending for anyone who hasn't seen it but all I can say is.....W.T.F?!?! :crazy2: was NOT expecting the movie to be like that.

Anyways, all in all, I really like Monster House, but I AM 17 and it seems to have been made for people more my age than the little kids that most other animated movies.

Um, wow! :faint:

I saw Cars and Monster House, not Happy Feet.

I loved Cars! And I thought Monster House was good too! I actually thought Monster House was one of the better Pixar movies..............:confused3

And to tell you the truth, I don't wanna see Happy Feet because I think it looks stupid. :confused3

I don't think MH is a Pixar movie.

well ive seen all three and while none of them are great by any stretch of the imagination i think monster house was the best of the three...i dont really think what was in monster house was all that bad either, if you watched the trailers for monster house they didnt even gear it towards kids they tried to make it seem scary and highlighted the fact that steven spielberg was associated wit hthe movie to try to get an older audience...and when you say that shrek is an exception shrek had a lot of questionable things in it as well perhaps more so then monster house and im not sure if you are aware of this or not but disney is notorious for their sexual inuendos in thier movies, ie.. Aladin, The Rescuers Little Mermaid, Roger Rabbit, The lion king all have questionable things in them disney just trys to make theres more "hidden"

There are levels. You can't say it's like Shrek because Shrek is a comedy. The "You still look like an *** to me!" comment in Shrek 2 is legit because it means donkey. Sure, it's really funny, but it's proper English and everything. Shrek did not have words like 'prude,' though, so it's very different.
Yes I have heard of the ALLEGED inuendos in the Disney movies. I assume you saw that site that lists them out. The majority of those, IMO rest on the power of suggestion. You really have to search for "SEX" in the constellation in LK to see it. Those are only noticable if you are told about them and specifically look for them. There is such a HUGE difference between a miniscule, most likely false sexual inuendo that no kid will probably EVER notice by himself in a Disney movie and MH where they have a little boy saying "got some beer?"

I loved Cars.I didn't really get the whole story line because everytime the children saw a character they knew, they shouted out their names, but any movie that can do that to kids is goood in my book.

Now dont get me wrong i do agree with you that monster house is complete trash. .and i love the movie cars but i also love the movie happy feet. .both happy feet and cars are great childrens movies i would have a had a hard choice on which i like better but i think i would defenitley go with happy feet it was such a cute movie and it made me feel like a little girl all over again. .just be sure to see happy feet when it comes out then make your decision on what you think about it

Very well spoken! I agree with it all. Monster House was complete and utter Trash.:sad2: When we were at the movie with my friends and I, once it started getting further and further into it we left. :car: We hated it! I completely agree! :thumbsup2

I haven't seen Monster House and really don't plan to, but you have to admit that while Disney is usually VERY good about maintaining a family-friendly mantra, occasionally they do have movies/TV shows with some questionable content in it for comedy's sake.

He did what in his cup?

See what I mean? Even in 'Cars'. IIRC, Pixar does this a little more than just Disney did (I say did because in this day and age they're more often than not more focused on trying to attract viewer with immaturity than with quality content. I'm dead serious, too.), but not *really*. I agree that Disney has an excellent record, but they, too, have the odd line with subtle meanings that are more for adults to be amused by than kids. Even in Treasure Planet. :teeth:

O_o

First I've ever heard of that. But really, you could spell pretty much ANYTHING using a bunch of stars that were more than likely randomly generated or drawn. Who the heck would take the time to pause that scene and look for a 'hidden message' in such an innocent scene. Geez.

I would like to see Happy Feet. People have said it was good so it might be an exception to my rule. Mickey1122's Law of Animated Films, lol.

Like I said, I recognize that some of these may exist, but they are WAY too subtle to be even noticible by children. That's a key difference. MH has obvious innuendos, but the "questionable" Disney movies have such itty bitty innuendos that, to an extent, they are meaningless.

I wish they would make more princess movies.
no more of this animated crap.
it seems like they change the names of the animals, but keep the same plot.
anyone else think like me?

you DO NOT have little kids use phrases like "got some beer?" "cut the crap," "I suck," "we're screwed," and you do not have policemen saying "oh it looks like they got high on pixie sticks." You DO NOT have a babysitter's boyfriend come over and get drunk. These are most certainly NOT the tenets of a children's film! The parents are indifferent and to a certain extent, austere, and the tone was dark.

Actually...MOST kids use those phrases TONS! The characters were around 12 years old right?? Ive heard 9 year olds cursing just the same. Like it or not the children of America use all those phrases. And if they dont..they will someday. Now to my next point, I dont think it the best choice to put it in a kids movie but unfortunatly alot of kids find all of those phrases extremely amusing and funny.

I thought the movie was average. Not great but not horrible like you make it sound. I wouldn't see it again..but im not a watch movies over and over again kinda person.

I agree with everything you said Andrew. When I saw MH I saw no valid plot or lesson, as is with most family animated films.

It was just all over the place.

Cars is an excellent animated film. They should have won the Oscar.

Um, I wouldn't be asking for beer.
And I wouldn't have when I was twelve.

However, when a child sees a commercial for an animated movie like this, they don't see anything wrong with it, they want to see it. I don't know anyone around my age or younger in my area who actually wanted to go see Monster House.

I haven't seen Monster House so I can't really say anything but I must agree.Disney does have wonderful Family films. You can trust that there wont be anything bad in them when you take your 5 year old to see a movie.lol

Compare it to a Disney Classic like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, the Little Mermaid, the Fox and the Hound, 101 Dalmations, Mulan, Hercules, the Lion King, the Aristocats, Tarzan, Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins, Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, Bambi, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, The Sword in the Stone, the Rescuers, the Great Mouse Detective, Lilo and Stitch, Pocahontas, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the classic Mickey cartooms, the Pixar Films, and the Studio Ghibli Films, and there is really no comparison. Disney knows how to make a good children's movie. They have done it 100 times and they can do it again. Disney's the name, animation's the game. .

you forgot toy story

just kidding

mh was horible (just looking at the comercials)to the extent that i turned down 2 invites to see it with my freinds

disney is a compleatly fammely based companey. yes it has branched away but you still dont see that kind of quality anywhere else with a few exceptians

and yes i still watch the new holloween movie each year evan though they are realy for younger people

2006 saw the release of three big animated movies: Cars, Monster House, and Happy Feet. I haven't seen Happy Feet, but I saw the other two. In fact, I just finished watching Monster House. I was utterly APPALLED by it.
The movie, overall, was complete trash. The story was pathetic, the "romance" was completely uncalled for, and the details were dissapointing. Furthermore, it didn't deserve the name 'family animated movie.' I don't care how you feel about censorship, but when you make a children's movie that you know a lot of people are going to to see, you DO NOT have little kids use phrases like "got some beer?" "cut the crap," "I suck," "we're screwed," and you do not have policemen saying "oh it looks like they got high on pixie sticks." You DO NOT have a babysitter's boyfriend come over and get drunk. These are most certainly NOT the tenets of a children's film! The parents are indifferent and to a certain extent, austere, and the tone was dark.

I have come to the conclusion that with a few (maybe five) exceptions, such as Shrek, you really have to be Disney to make a decent animated movie. If you look back since Snow White, you see a nonstop line of excellent, high quality, family friendly, well-thought out, purposeful, intelligent, cultured, classy animated movies. There are exceptions, as can be expected, but overall, Disney has a reputation for distinguihed excellence in the family entertainment industry. Whether it's Disney itself, Pixar, or Studio Ghibli, you are pretty much guaranteed excellece and a superior product.

Compare MH to Cars. Cars was one of the two other major animated movies of 2006. In Cars, like it or not, you see wonderful animation, a carefully crafted moral that teaches the balance between winning and losing, encourages perseverance, honesty, and responsibility, and lovable characters. The story is entertaining and a breath of fresh air in the cinema.

Compare MH to a similar type of movie with a similar plot. The movie has a haunted place of residence and inquisitive people trying to stop the terror and figure out what the mystery is. You guessed it, Disney's Tower of a Terror, released in the Halloween of 1997 as a Disney Channel Original Movie. You see a similar concept, but you also see drastically different execution. TOT is polished, and although it is not animated, still entertains the family. Yes, there is evil and hatred in the movie, but more importantly, you see that thi can be overcome without brutally destroying the hotel. Both have haunted spirits, but MH's spirit is a woman who hates children and essentialy has to be blown up to stop her reign of terror. Sounds great, doesn't it?

Compare MH to any of the other Disney Halloween movies. MH takes place on Halloween, and shows a boy's adventure on that night. Every year, Disney rolls out one of their own Halloween movies. Even though these movies are low budget Disney Channel Original Movies, they still intellectualy trump Monster House. Look at the first Halloweentown movie. This cute movie has a 13 year old girl battling evil, but she doesn't have to be ignorant and violent. While the boy in MH starts out hating the old man, Marnie shows that family strength is important from the getgo, creating a bond with her grandmother. THe kid in MH has to have it spelled out for him.

Sorry that this is long, but I just have to get this off of my chest. I could not believe what trash that movie turned out to be! We watched it, and when it finished, we saw Cars on the other station. Five minutes of that completely showed up MH.

I am just so glad that the world has Disney to ensure that there will always be movies made with integrity and quality.

Monster House was a Pixtar Animations and Walt Disney World Production tho!

lol

but now that you told me about the movie i kinda wanna see a policeman say that!!! haha

In absolutely NO way does that mean we should endorse it.

I am positive that it is NOT a Pixar/Disney movie. They are doing Ratatouille and soon, Toy Story 3. When did Pixar make this?

That's the power of Disney and Pixar. When an animated movie comes, out people generally assume that it is Disney-made. I read a post about someone with the same view, who noticed a person wondering about when the "Over the Hedge" ride will be put in at WDW.
This power can be good and bad.
I have to disagree that the policeman comment is funny. When I think about how they are resorting to that as a feeble attempt to get some laughs, I am disgusted. Whatever happened to cute humor? Now we have drug references and the chubby kid saying phrases like "I stole drugs for you." He says it out of context, so anyone walking in would NOT know that they were stolen so that the house could be put to sleep. It was cold medecine. MH stoops to a low level in removing the context clues to make a dumb drug joke.
Is it just me, or is this a little tasteless?
