Am I alone in thinking that this is kinda feeble? I went to D world this past Nov. the Magic Kingdom opening festivities were cool. Train full of characters, fireworks, confetti, etc... What gives?
I was thinking they did that so the lines didn't totally block the esplanade. During peak seasons, those lines can get very long & letting people in & on to Main Street at least opens up that area???? That was my thoughts on it...
I also like the opening ceremony at WDW's MK. It's cute and keeps the kids entertained! I agree...those lines can get sooo long, they cross eachother and reach both gates. So every other line is facing the other way, very hard to get through.
Uhmm, I've never seen rope drop. Everytime I've gone, the gates don't open until 8am and then you just go in. I've gone in the summer and over the holiday season. When do they do this?
I loved seeing the Magic Kingdom's opening ceremony...it was so cute, and it really put me in a nice perky mood. But walking onto Main Street at Disneyland in anticipation of heading into the rest of the park is pretty magical too. At any rate, I'm not sure I'd want to see the opening show more than once a trip, and if you're not watching it, then there's not really any difference between being there or waiting on Main Street at Disneyland. My friend seemed to be bored.
Anyway, I think it's a great fit for WDW, where there are a lot more tourists than day-trippers, but even if space weren't an issue, I'm not sure it would be great for DL.
