D-Day Invasion- "Strange"-ly Imminent!! TRIP REPORT IS UP!!

What would a military camp be without the various signs and insignias posted around on the tents and other equipment?

For example without this sign:

you might not know that that is the tent to find medical help!
And in some cases, even WITH the sign!!!
I would like to find (hint, hint) about 60 Mickey paint chips in various colors (the kind that eh-hem, were being discontinued about 6 months ago ;))
I'll see if I can locate some of these for you. Not sure if I used all of the ones I grabbed a couple years ago or not.
and have each one of the Lady Soldiers write 20 wishes on them. One wish on each of 20 Mickeys for each of us! At the beginning of the trip it will be loaded with all kinds of wishes hung all over the wreath. It will be our Wishing Wreath!! Then, as each wish is “granted” we can clip it off and save it for posterity. Which would be good in and of itself, but won’t it be a delightfully childish, downright whimsically fun thing to come home each evening to clip off our wishes and reminisce about our magical days??
Plus a really unique way to help you remember everything you did so you can make that TR the best one ever! (little dates, times and notes on the back of each one, maybe):thumbsup2
As a last touch, I want to find a little magnetic pad of paper with a pen and somehow put it on the outside of our door, so anyone who recognizes us (on the very slim, off chance) can leave their name and/or number for a possible Meet.
You never know what ninja reader may come by and recognize they are among the DISboard famous and sign on in hopes they can become a part of your TR! :confused3

I love the idea of the Wishing Wreath. That's so sweet.

I can't take credit for this window, but it is from one of my trips. It was Tink's creation entirely, and I teased her while she was doing it. Her DIS name is so long that she had to reposition the letters a couple of times to make it fit! :lmao:

WDWMay09-0522.jpg

And let me tell you, when you don't know the resort or haven't memorized where your room is yet, that decorated window will be a God send!

My answer: Solder #2's third tenet of touring is to not forsake the group too quickly if she gets bored with the world showcase. She may break it IF she needs some alone time.

I didn't decorate a window, but I did hang a lime-green mickey head on the backpack I carried in the parks. No one mentioned it. :confused3

Make it 3! :thumbsup2

:faint:

So glad your Sis could be with your Dad so your Mom could still be with Andrew! I know Disney music always helps to relax me when I am stressed - my official prescription for you is that and a glass of wine!

Yes, I like that prescription very much! Wine works for stress AND dog bites.

Oh no! Has it been found yet?

Nope.

Oh no - 3 tendons! How is he doing? I will be praying that surgery goes well on Friday.

I will be calling in a little bit!

Glad Andrew's day went well and love that he is most excited about the meal plan!!! Hopefully the food is good enough to make his excitement warranted.

I guess the thing now is to get a cup of coffee and mix it with soft serve ice cream for an insta-smoothie... :cloud9: Wish I could do university again.

Be back soon with the answer to question 2!

okey, dokey!

Wow, what a wonderful idea! I like the wishes on the wrath! :goodvibes

I can't imagine that you find the time to prepare things like that inbetween the packing etc. But I guess it is what keeps you sane during the process! :goodvibes

It's sanity therapy for sure, and actually, these were done a VERY long time ago!! And I TOTALLY forgot to give Cynthia credit for helping me with those darling mouseheads with our screen names! :worship::worship:

Okay, here is my answer to question 2 . . .

We have never decorated our door so no photos to share but I would be happy to supply some Mickey Head paint chips from HD - I will bring them to the DC Meet. :yay: I really want to DIS some more but need to get some work done at work today! :rotfl:

Got it! :thumbsup2

I'd REALLY appreciate some Mickey Heads!!! I have no way to get them, and I know most of you have some extras lying around!

Okay, first things first. Not having a competitive bone in my body (right Glenn?) I will attack the contest question first.

My answer is:
:lmao:

You have all your priorities right on!

Oh wow, that is even more "wonderful" news you so badly needed to hear! More prayers that his surgery will go smoothly and successfully!

I'll know more in a bit.

Oh wow, that is even more.......oh, said that already! This has got to STOP!!! You certainly have had more than your share! :worship:

It's been a week- I care not to repeat it!

DS21 has had to do his share of military classes also, required by his Naval contract that has helped put him through college. Only one more year of college and he gets to start paying them back! Still hoping he will get a few weeks before he has to report so he can make the trip next June with us.

I think these kids don't understand the payback fully until they're in it. At least I"m not sure mine truly gets it.

I do too, Marv. It'd sure be a nice last hurrah!

You are practically asking for this: Go out and run!!!

zrunningamok.gif

I didn't. :guilty:

First of all...

Oh my gosh!!! Please tell your Dad that I am so sorry and that I hope he feels better. Tell him I will bring him some Cheesecake. And I am definitely praying!!!!

Liesa - that is SOOOOOO cool! And what a great idea! Surely I can find some of those paint chips - I can play, right?

I will tell him, for sure!

YEs, need chips!

:pixiedust:

I'm on my way to doctor's office now....will post results when I get back.

Yeah, sort of he's sporting a beard. I'm such a mean person. I told him he's got about as much hair on his face as he does his chest...which is ZILCH! :rotfl::rotfl: Seriously, he could shave, but he can't shave his neck area and he thinks it would look stupid. So we are going with the scruffy look for awhile.

Please do let us know!! And do we get a pic of Mark all scruffy?

Ok...here is my answer:

And lame it was!!!

And in some cases, even WITH the sign!!!

If you're referring to that red diamond, :confused3.... the Red Diamond Rescue Brigade??

I'll see if I can locate some of these for you. Not sure if I used all of the ones I grabbed a couple years ago or not.

That'd be GREAT!!! Some people keep their receipts in basements, maybe your paint chips are down there in dark places too??

Plus a really unique way to help you remember everything you did so you can make that TR the best one ever! (little dates, times and notes on the back of each one, maybe):thumbsup2

HUH! Good idea! Whatever doesn't fit into the Mickey Journal can go on these!

You never know what ninja reader may come by and recognize they are among the DISboard famous and sign on in hopes they can become a part of your TR! :confused3

DISFamous! You're funny! ANYONE (pssstt.. hey lurkers!!) can join in RIGHT NOW if they want to.

HEY!! Any lurkers who haven't shown up for roll call yet??

I love the idea of the Wishing Wreath. That's so sweet.

Your and Tink's window gave me GREAT inspiration!! In fact, it was your that gave me the idea for the names! :thumbsup2 I thought for a long time about how to do LeeAnn's, but ended up doing the LGMHs.

My answer: Soldier #2's third tenet of touring is to

I saw it! ;)

Please do let us know!! And do we get a pic of Mark all scruffy?

I'm back. I have a bacterial infection (gee, I could have told her that). She gave me an antibiotic which should kick in within 48 hours and also vicodin for the pain of my ribs. She said I should feel relief in 48 hours for the infection.

I'll try to remember to take a picture of scruffy tonight.

All caught up. Germany looks great. I know you will have a great time. Your dad is in my prayers. Hopefully no one will fart in the OR.

Finally!!! So glad you can finally get some relief!!!

Knowing my dad, it'd most likely be HIM- he's the only one I know who could fart under anesthesia!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

You aren't going to believe it (I know I don't)!!!!

I actually just did a WHOLE 25 minute run!!!!!!!!!!!!

:cool1: I believe it!! Awesome! Great job Liesa - you're my inspirations!

Drive by post really quick-

Dad sliced not one, not two, but 3 Tendons!!!

Surgery is Friday in Louisville!

Prayers heading east right now....

What was Soldier #2's Third Tenet of Touring? And if she breaks it, what would be her excuse??

Alrighty, here we go:
Maroo promises not to forsake the group TOO quickly if she gets bored with the WS - but she may have too if she needs some hot tub time!

OK found Soldier #2 tenets===== 3. I promise not to forsake the group TOO quickly if I get bored with the WS (but a girl has to have SOME hot tub time! ) But I also promise to capture some alone time on this trip - as I know even the best of friends need a break from each other at some point.

I know where she won't be having any hot tub time... THE POLY!!!!! LOLOL I still cannot believe they dont have a hot tub there!!!

Alrighty, here we go:

I was supposed to run tonight, but I totally forgot I was teaching English at 7:30- 8:30, my only window to run, really. After dinner, but before dark- and when I realized (too late) I was teaching, I hadn't eaten yet, and flaked out not wanting to run on an empty stomach. I know. Lame.

Gotcher answer. ;)

OK found Soldier #2 tenets===== 3. I promise not to

Good answer! And you're right! I can't believe it either!

We decorated our window in October...

DSC06038.jpg

It wasn't over the top.... just a little festive!!!! :goodvibes

OH! I likey!!

I was (notice the past tense there) going to do orange lights on the wreath and put up little black Mickey head ghosts I had started to make. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo, Disney had to go.... ok, breathe, just simmer down, 7.

So this makes three posts in one day for me!

No problem on the paint chips! My local HD still has them - I just picked up a few LGMH last week (for our meet) so I can probably get a bunch with no trouble. I put them on my bag and stroller the the last two trips and did have one person say something to me.

So glad you got checked out and will got some drugs to give you some relief!

Breathe in, breathe out.

I like your window idea! I know we had some Mickey Heads, but they might have gotten tossed in the move. I'll check and let you know if we do.

The only decorating we have done was with some Mickey window clings - nothing too exciting or creative. But even that was a very nice help in finding the room the first couple days when you couldn't quite remember your room number!

:worship::worship::worship::worship: A rainbow of pretty colors would be ever so lovely!!! :worship::worship::worship: 60 would be great, if you don't think you'll get arrested!

Don't worry about the run! And running on an empty stomach never worked for me. Sometimes the run just does not fit into your daily routine. And as long as you don't come up with an excuse every night, you are still on track! :thumbsup2

I didn't see this a bit ago! Sorry, Brook!

I just had a PM tell me that he can get 20! And Jen said she has some more- so if I can get one last set of 20, I'll be set! :thumbsup2 If it's you, GREAT, if not, don't worry, I think we'll come up with them! ;)

I had totally forgotten I was to teach English tonight! So, it was decided for me. Ah welll.... tomorrow's another day. I can still get 3 in this week. :rolleyes1

Just a couple of housekeeping items:

Remember that little girl who badly broke her arm?? Elizabeth? I promised an update, and here is what I got a few days back- sorry I forgot to post earlier!

"On Thursday, last week, we arrived into Istanbul and hired a driver to take us to the hospital. (It was a bit intimidating being in Turkey for the first time and not being able to speak the language! PTL for the English speakers we found along the way!) About 5 minutes into our trip from the airport, I realized that the transportation company had not returned my passport! UGH. The driver was able to understand the dilemma and turned around and drove us back to the airport! PTL, the passport was still there!
When we finally arrived at the hospital across town, no one seemed to have any idea we were showing up and there were only a couple of English speaking workers in the emergency room! (We thought the insurance company had set everything up, so this was a bit of a shock.) The Ld provided and an orthopedic specialist was on duty…and he spoke English! He was wonderful with Elizabeth, and tried to calm her fears, as her experience in ***** had traumatized her. After more X-rays, the doctor showed us where there was additional damage in the elbow area that wasn’t seen on the X-rays from ****. But, with all the damage, he found no indication of infection and felt that all the breaks were in alignment, so neither surgery nor hospitalization were necessary! He also pointed out that no damage had been done to the growth plates, which had been another concern of ours. He was able to re-splint her arm and this new splint was more comfortable and it relieved some of the pain that she had been experiencing. Two days later, when the doctor re-checked her wound (where the bone pierced the skin), he was able to confirm that there was still no infection and that the swelling in her elbow had gone down. After our third visit with the doctor, he cleared us to return back home.

We were able to catch a flight out of Turkey on Sunday night and arrived back to our city on Monday evening. After a sleepless night on the airplane, I was able to get 13 hours of sleep last night…and I still feel tired."

Now, I also spent the day working on our own newsletter that goes out once a quarter (if I have my act together). Some of you have expressed interest in knowing more about what we do here, so if you're interested just PM me, and I can e-mail it on.
