Only one similariy between WDW and cross-steppe trip - will there be more????
I guess, you are right. I remember a trip with my parents to Poland in 1987 in a small caravan. Our first and only trip to a communist country. I was twelve and although it was a different vacation for me as well, only after I grew older I was impressed by my parents courage. I think, after living in Central Europe post 1990 and learning a lot about life there before 1990, I got quite frightened "backward". But as a child I enjoyed this trip a lot!!!
Our kids ARE amazing travelers. The really seem to take circumstances in stride, and just deal with stuff. Then again, they don't understand that at any time along the road, corrupt or mis-informed police could throw us in jail at any "just because". There is a true-life horror story coming up in the segment later on about our border crossing. Think the movie "Terminal".
