It is Cypress Pointe Grand Villas just FYI (and to prevent any confusion on where we are talking about)

These are the second phase of a development by (at the time) Sunterra. They used a lot of the name of the original timeshare/development Cypress Pointe (the overall planned development community) and Cypress Pointe Resort (the original timeshare property developed on the site along with the Bluetree development which started out as an apartment complex but was later changed to timeshares).

It was purposely named to take advantage of the great reputation for design and quality of the CPR development of which 8 of the originally planned 9 buildings were completed. It ended up fully built out at 8 buildings all 8 three stories tall and no elevators. The ninth building was never constructed as they had a sales center set up in temporary trailers on that site until after the development permits ran out. As it was nearly impossible to get them back the CPR construction ended and the undeveloped property turned over to the CPR HOA Association for a minimal cost. That was developed into the brand new, large recreation/picnic area that helped complete the resort amenity suite.

Meanwhile they designed and built Cypress Pointe Grande Villas - aka Phase 2 - made up of 8 more buildings 4 and 5 stories tall all with elevators. The design of the resort changed to having the majority of the amenities in the center courtyard & surrounded by the 8 buildings. The units were slightly larger than those in Phase 1 and offered a full 1 bedroom "lockout" that Phase one did not have (they do have the ability to split the Phase 1 units into a 1 Bedroom studio and 2 bedroom but the 1 bedroom is not able to be deposited to trade only for use as an owner on site during the use year to get 2 weeks for one if desired).

They also set it up that CPGV would use the existing Clubhouse (owned by CPR owners) as the check in area and both resorts would share all common areas. That is a nice feature except possibly for the shared front desk.

So now both resorts are owner controlled (good) and under a different management than back in the early 2000's. CPR is an RCI Silver Crown/II rated resort while CGV has no rankings last time I looked. The CPR units have had one total renovation in 2004/5 and are currently having the next round (32 units every 6 months until completed - right now 32 units are renovated to 2010 level).

CPGV has never had a full unit makeover but the 1 bedroom lockout side was recently done & all 1 bedroom units are complete for that. Next up are the 2 bedroom units but the time frame I'm not sure of. I don't think any are complete yet so right now they are still largely the original 1995 design - nice but not up to today's "look and feel".

We prefer CPR for that reason and the overall design that we prefer but we would & have accepted CPGV if CPR isn't available for the time we need. Both are more than adequate and share a great location for access to virtually anything you want to do in Orlando.

We stayed in a two-bedroom Cypress Pointe Grand Villas unit a couple of years ago and liked it. While I thought that the rooms were showing some age, the villa was clean and everything was in working condition. The Cypress Pointe Resort/Cypress Pointe Grande Villas timeshare complex is compact (the two sections are split by an in-resort street that runs through the middle of the complex) but has all the typical timeshare amenities - two pools at CPGV, one pool at CPR, a mini-golf course at CPGV, basketball and tennis courts, grills, playgrounds, etc. One nice thing about these resorts is that the facilities at one section are generally available for use by guests of the other section. The location is great!! Lots of restaurants within a couple of miles of the resort, a Winn-Dixie supermarket very close at hand (you could easily walk there), Walgreens nearby, about a mile from Downtown Disney, five to eight miles to the four Disney parks, seven miles to Universal Studios, about three miles to SeaWorld.

If I had the choice between Cypress Pointe Resort (we stayed there about ten years ago and it's been refurbished recently) and Cypress Pointe Grand Villas, I'd pick Cypress Pointe Resort but wouldn't be disappointed with the Grand Villas. There are other timeshare resorts in the general area that I prefer but that location is really quite nice.

I stayed there over July 4th for the week. I liked it. The unit was airy, bright & clean. It was a nice size. The only complaint I have was the internet. They rent you a modem for $20 for the entire stay. That's not too bad of a price since some places charge you $8+ per night. The problem was that it is wired & nearly every time I went to log on, it would direct me to a wireless log on. Front desk had me try a different, cable, then a different modem. Each time, I had the same problem. After the 3rd day, I returned it and told them to credit my account the $20. They did with no questions asked. There was a sign at check in about the "code" for the wireless. Phase 1, Cypress Pointe, has wireless. It is only the Grand Villa's that does not. I think being so close to their wireless, my laptop kept taking me there. I even tried to disable the wi fi on my laptop & still got taken to the wireless site. There was a choice of 2 wireless sites. I think one was GC & the other was Blue Tree since they were just next to us.

Other than that, I loved the place. I love the location & the pools were decent.

I have read a lot about CPGV since we are staying there at the end of August. The biggest complaints seem to be the slow and spotty Internet, the size of the 1 bedroom units- I've seen photos and they are right, they are ridiculously small, and the noise caused from the bar stools on the tile floors above (so request a top floor). The picture below is the "living room" and the kitchen of the 1 bedroom.
